Mandriva 2008.1 Spring Edition : Breath Of Fresh Air

Thanks  @ Mods please clear that long list of Linkbacks

Excellent work on the review..Man you have put in some real hard-work! Great work

Btw, its Metisse and not Metissa

^^Hey thanks  Fixed the spell mistake :stuck_out_tongue:

I missed an important point :@, that Mandriva comes with Full EEE PC support and you get Online Support and help especially for EEE PC for Power Pack edition :expressionless:

Gr8 review darky!

Some suggestions:

  1. Please include the download links (for downloading the distro) in the review too.
  2. Please avoid using words like ā€œI was shocked to seeā€. Instead u can use ā€œI was pleased to seeā€.

^^Thanks .. Added the d/l link.. and I used shocked because it can be used in both sense but please can be used in only one sense.. But point noted sir.. will use much better words next time

Installed Mandriva on more than 30 computers today  and 2 laptops.. Wow it configured all the ATI and nvidia drivers and Compiz out of the box.. Every one was stunned to see the eye candy :drool2:

Where was this? In the school your mom works at?

^In my school and in the College where my Mom is Principal.. :stuck_out_tongue:

Nice man I’m gonna try this..

While the review itself is neat (and Darky repped) here’s my rant about Mandriva and Fedora 9 in favour of Ubuntu :stuck_out_tongue:

Nice Review
Installed in my lappy everyday…the dealbreaker was Wifi (Broadcom) was not installed as it asked for ndiswrapper. Its a deal breaker. I know broadcom is at fault for nt having proper linux driver but still w/o wifi whats the use :frowning:

^^Install the BCM43XX driver as stated here Mandriva 2008.1 Spring Edition : Breath Of Fresh Air - TechEnclave

excellent work..

installed it in my laptop and running great…

just speakers echoing internal sounds and headphones buzzing continuously.. :frowning:

^^try to play around with Kmix Master Audio Center or Pulse Audio to fix the Echoing or Buzzing.. You can access those tools from Main Menu → Sound , if you are using Kick Off then Main Menu ->Application → Sound

What model do you have? For my tablet, Fedora 9 worked a bit better with the built-in kernel driver called ā€œb43ā€, although you still have to download the firmware and type a few commands to get it set up, but much less work.

The b43 loading error in dmesg output itself points you to a URL with the steps

yes would try that…
actually been pretty busy for a few days and hence didnt get much time to try fix the issue..
thanks for the suggestion

Guys digg the post here.. Some one dugged it again but this one is more popular than earlier on :stuck_out_tongue:
Digg - Mandriva 2008.1 Spring Edition : Breath Of Fresh Air

Hey Dark Star,

One quick question .. can i set this up on RAID 0(nVidia 680I Sli board) with dual boot setup(Windows XP/ Windows Vista)??

If so, Please direct to me to a link which tells me how to add nvidia storage media drivers for RAID 0? or else will it work automatically..?

I have it downloaded already.. waiting for your inputs before proceeding further…

Cheers,

Jay

Since I don’t have Raid setup I was unable to answer. So I confirmed this with my friends .. It should work automatically.Set up the RAID in the NVIDIA utility, then run the Mandriva installer, choose ā€˜manual partitioning’, and see if it detects the array correctly.
