Stupid Asus probe scaring me out!

Hehehe… Kya maine aap ko poochha- omnipresent, all-knowing guru!!

Here is how I would have the fans blowing air - the direction of air flow is marked in white - the YELLOW mark is where I would place another fan, tied to the HDD cage. I would remove the the back plane covers not being used which I have marked with a “X”.

Whilst everyone else in the forums have said good things about the Glacieltech fans, the 2 x 120mm fans I have make so much noise that I cannot use them :frowning:

This is just my 2 paisa of info which I think is worth trying before removing the North/South bridge heatsinks.

Whose thread is this? Aware of freedom of speech? You were excercising it very well in that other thread of mine? Right?

And i when i started with Hehehe…, i implied i agree heartily.
That was a remark saying- “you are right as usual (because you care to know the right thing by thorough research/experience) but i wonder what made Gannu pass a remark like that.” :cool2:
In fact you must have read the second line in that post that i edited out later coz i felt i was making a silly statement. :stuck_out_tongue:
I hope i am more clear now- i thought there is no harm in a lil fun. :frowning:
Do you always have to take statements in a negative way??

In ur LN2 thread, a whole post of mine was deleted as it contained a secondpart that was O/T.
But the first part contained several sincere compliments which you might not have seen.
What do i say but ‘my bad luck’ if you fail to recognise genuine remarks- not everyone is conniving and sarcastic.
(and to make myself clear- this was spoken in general- implying i am a person who has nothing againts anyone. :P)

Hence forth , i think i have to make a post and then post the implied meaning too- like we had to do with Sanskrit verses in school. :stuck_out_tongue:

Uh no bikey.. Not in tat sense.. :stuck_out_tongue:

I myself use a CM690..

This chap bublez has invested so much moolah in his rig; so I’d suggested him the stacker(630) instead of CM690..

Stacker has more or less the same cooling performance compared to the CM690; perhaps the additional side fans provide still better cooling..

The matte finish in the side panel of the CM690 is real poor..

Sorry for the thread jack but a few questions on coooling while we are at it

Eazy sir,

  1. Should i remove the backplane covers from a cabinet for better cooling? Unfortunately i have a VIP cabby so once they are off they are really off :stuck_out_tongue: so wanna know what u think. was keeping them on thinkin they ll keep the dust out.

  2. Regarding the place where u put the extra 120mm in the HDD cage, mesa got 2 80mms at the front as intakes. Does it make sense putting in another 80mm at the place where u put the 120mm?

Gotta keep that 8800GT n the OCed E2140 cool …but before that, i need some MX2.

  1. Also, how much better would the MX2 be over the stock paste. Me never touched it till now…

Looking forward to some repies

n once again, sorry for the thread jack, but this makes more sense than a new thread

My thinking behind the removal of the backpane covers is that the fan attached to the HDD cage will blow air across the GFX card (which is the hottest hardware in a case) and push the hot air outside the case from the opening. I like to think this does make a difference in temps  Dust is not something I worry about as much as the components heating up, I open my case at least once a fortnight and clear the dust out.

The reason of putting the extra 120mm fan on the HDD cage is that it is large enough to throw air towards the Northbridge Chip / GFX card / Ram / CPU. Once I did put 2 80mm high speed fans in this place but they did not do as nice a job as one 120mm. This fan placement will work only with HDD cages which are placed sideways in the case.

I have with me a few different HS Compounds including a tube of MX2, which I have never used till now. I am quite OK with the temps I get with AS5 on the CPU but I use ONLY AS Ceramique on GFX cards and Nothbridge chips. AS5 gives me about 1 or 2 C lower CPU temps compared AS Ceramique or the stock Thermalright GOOP. From what I have read MX2 should be slightly better then AS5 - maybe ONE degree C lower CPU temps.

A pic of my setup - you can see the extra 120mm fan marked in Yellow.

Tat fan marked with yellow is a welcome addition;
Shud do a good job..
I’d do tat with mine..

But wat if u’d kept the fan on the TRU as a push one rather than a pull one??
I guess tats def better..

Cos already one’s quite close behind pulling the hot air out???

YES it is better - about 1 or 2 C better - but I found that there was a lot more dust in the heat sink’s fins when air was pushed thru them :frowning: also the 38mm thick Panaflo fan was on top of the ram when in the push position :frowning:

Exactly what came to my mind also.

Oh yeah, tats correct..

I was wondering u cud’ve settled fer a 25mm scythe or some other panaflo n cud’ve served u well..

Does this one hav a CFM>100???

Nevertheless.. Ur idea of HDD cage fan’s gr8…

Eazy Sir is the master of H/W.

One has to see his collection of rigs, hsfs, fans and HDDs and the way he gets the best out fo them.

Here is something to check out - the differences in temp with fans PUSHING, PULLING and in a 2 fan PUSH-PULL setup, there is only ONE degree difference between PUSH and PULL, but I found that the reduction of dust in the HS’s Fins is quite a lot in a PULL configuration.

the source for this is a very good thread -

Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme Review - Universal abit USA Forums

The Panaflo is my Summer use fan, its the Medium speed one 2100RPM - in Autumn I use the Scythe or a Vantec both 1600RPM - in Winter (now) I use a slow 1400RPM Vantec Stealth. CRAZY HUH ??!!?? :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

P.S. You will not be thanking me for the idea of a HDD cage fan when you find that you have to often clean the layers of dust off the GFX card and MoBo because of this fan :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: I now use the compressed air can for removing the dust, which Prime ABGB sells, check their web site for details.

^^^The air filter which was in the bottom of my CM690 is now kept @ the side.. tat one collects a helluva amount of dust..

So dusting is a no-go.. :frowning:

So Eazy sir, pl enlighten us with any more of ur h/w concepts in the future…

+1

10 chars bikey…

I had typed one line in this post which I seem to have deleted by mistake, which is …

**The poster of the tests has shown that a PULL fan setup has a lower CPU Temperature then a PUSH setup !! GO FIGURE !! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: **

Huh??? :open_mouth:

Really??? How on earth is tat possible…
