A very Wierd Issue.

A friend of mine has a wifi network at his place and there 5 people with their own computers who use the wifi network if nobody is connected to the wifi network then he is unable to connect using his laptop.

Now the catch is that there should be atleast one person connected to the wifi network for him to connect to it.

for eg : if he is trying to connect when nobody is using the network then he cannot connect however if anybody else is connected then he can immediately connect

After being connected it doesn’t matter whether anybody else is connected or not - he remains connected as long as he uses his computer - without shutting down or disconnecting.

OS : Windows Vista.

Reloaded the WIFI driver.

Checked ipconfig .. getting ip address.

Disconnected and reconnected to the network same issue.

Deleted the connection ..

Rebuilt the connection .. same issue.

Any insight on the same

ps: He had this issue with his previous computer with windows 2000

How does that ‘one person’ get connected in the first place ?

Power on the computer → Click Firefox → TechEnclave and volia connected.

I think its more of a software issue rather than a hardware fault but would get the details..

what more would come under the " More info needed " Section.

What kind of network is it (the last letter)

..and are the wi-fi cards of the successful pc’s different in any way to the problematic one ?

My guess:

The internet connection is probably configured to dial/connect from their computers, theres usually a similar option with most connections that use a dialer to connect. So the settings are prob set in their computers but not in ur friends PC :slight_smile:
