APC Battery Question..? Please guide..

Hi
Last nite My APC Back UPS 800RS battery died on me after working for about 3.5 years.
Now I am looking for a replacement one.
Form the APC website they recommend RB32:
APC Replacement Battery Cartridge #32
This ia for the 800VA model as stated above.
Now the 1000/1100VA models ie. APC Back-UPS RS 1000VA1100VA
Uses the battery RB33:
APC Replacement Battery Cartridge #33
These 2 are exactly the same in size, I only assume it will be different in mAh
So, is it ok for me to get the higher capacity battery namely RB33 over RB 32?
I would like this as I would like some more backup time.
Thank you and all the help is much appriciated.
Cheers,

..ok forget the above query does anyone know how much the replacement battery for the APC BackUPS 800Va costs.

It uses 2 batteries joined together. A local person quoted me 1100/- each so that would mean 2200/- for the batteries alone.

Can someone confirm this is ok or am i getting robbed?

Thank you.

Where are you from?
Can give you APC dealer contact if you are from Bangalore, ring him up and find out the info.

Better call APC support and check with them. Old (8yr old model) APC 500 va batteries cost 1200 rs. So very possible.

anything special abt apc batteries…what abt normal exide batteries…last time i enquired abt 8 months or so ago…it was around 850…

^^ cant use those, the APC has some special connector and stuff, even I though abut it at first to plg in a normal Exide battery and get going but if you see this model things are different.

Is this even worth it? It a Simulated Sine wave UPS, and a new local one which is 1000VA costs about 3.7k.

So Is a APC actually that much better?

One thing to note is that in the last 3.5 years it has not given me a reason to complain.

Please let me know if I should invest 2.2K and get the APC going again or for 3.7 get a new 1kva local UPS?

Thanks

If you decide to go for another brand of UPS consider the Powercom, I bought the 1kva Powercom BNT1000A for around 4k about 2 years back and it has worked without any problems.

Techtree.com India > Reviews > Basics > Power Supply > PowerCom BNT-1000A

ya i got offered that for 3.7K today i guess they dropped a bit in 2 years.

…reading the review.

Is this a Pure Sine wave one? I mean is it ok to use with HX620?

Also can I connect an external battery to it if needed?

..ok an update.

I opened the battery, it is nothing but 2 exide batterys stuck together with a fancy APC sticker.

Now I will go looking for an exide dealer and try to see if they are cheaper that way, and fix it myself.

Else the APC guy will have to get them for me.

I quite liked the powercom ones as well, nothing against them, but I believe my APC is as good as the powercom 1000va, but it will be simpler and cheaper to change the batteries. Lets see how it goes..

Cheers,

Nope not sine wave, it has an external battery port. I have been lucky with my HX620, I have a BackUPS RS 800 which never makes any buzzing sounds when supplying battery power to the HX620 PSU, no problems with the PCM 1kva UPS either. The only grouch I have with the PCM UPS is that it uses a serial port interface to connect to the computer and its monitoring software is nowhere as good as APC’s Powerchute of the RS 800 UPS’s, the Powerchute Business edition software which comes with the SmartUPS is not very good :frowning:

Read the user comments on the bottom of the PCM UPS review page.

^^Thanks.

..looks like I am keeping my APC.

go to market and buy two EXIDE 12v 7ah battery for 800/- each and fit it in the APC

Thank you.

I called them already and inquired about 2 batteries:

EP1229W and EP1234W. The former is the one with 7ah, and the later is the one with 9ah. I got quoted 800/- and 1100/-

I am going to get the 9ah ones as they will provide me with 5 more minutes.

The guy is to come over sometime before I get home from office and is to fix this and be done.

Lets see how it goes.

Thanks for the help.

..Exide dealer came over, gave me 2 new Ep1229W batteries 7ah. for 850/- each. Total cost 1700/- My USP is back online without a hitch,

as good as new. I initially got Quoted 1100/- each to a total of 2200/- from APC. Money saved 500/- so this can now go towards my mouse pad.

Thank you.
