Firstly this has nothing to do with your OS.
I would suspect you are using DHCP on your router. If yes, I would suggest you to try with a static IP.
Assign your WAN port on the router the following IP:
IP: 192.168.1.2
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.1.1 (Your modem)
In which device i have to do this settings??
wifi one or simple ADSL router??
For DNS, I use opendns
DNS1: 208.67.222.222
DNS2: 208.67.220.220
i too use it, its good service:)
I would suggest that you disable the DHCP server on the router and use a static address. Most probably, your router’s DNS forwarded is not working or is off. To be sure, try with a static ip on the computer/laptop. Assign the following IP address to the router’s LAN port:
192.168.10.1
255.255.255.0
My present network map, all have a STATIC IP
[ul]
[li]My Ubuntu box 192.168.1.5[/li][li]My Dlink adsl modem/router 192.168.1.1[/li]The Dlink modem is set in PPPoE mode to connect to internet with internal dialer
[li]my wifi router/Access point has a address of 192.168.1.2[/li]
[/ul]
Disable DHCP on router.
done!, disable dhcp on all the devices(adsl, wifi,pc) and switched to static ip
Assign the following IP to your computer/laptop:
192.168.10.2
255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 192.168.10.1
DNS1: 208.67.222.222
DNS2: 208.67.220.220
my present setting of pc
gaurish@Digital-den:~$ ifconfig
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:11:09:06:18:C6
inet addr:192.168.1.5 Bcast:192.168.1.255 Mask:255.255.255.0

Let other settings on router be the same, i.e. your automatic connection settings./QUOTE]
atcully i am confused by your use of work router??
which one of both are you pointing to??
Try this setup out. If it is working, then the problem is with the DNSForwarded of your WiFi router. If still it does not work, then please report the result of the tracepath on your ubuntu machine:
[QUOTE]
eg. tracepath 61.0.0.70
We can then proceed from there.
gaurish@Digital-den:~$ tracepath 61.0.0.70
