Honestly these days 80x80 is way too small.
We are no longer in 800x600 resolution era. Even basic pcs of today will be found using 1024x768 and higher. And 80x80 is too small for some details to show in avatar. And keep data size limit na, say 30Kb max, what matters to dialup user is data transfer, you limit that. pixel size has nothing to do with the data size. A good 100x100 can fit inside 10K if you wana.
And dialup users always have option to turn off the signatures and avatars if they are soo worried about the data transfer. thats what i used to do when i had dialup.
If you are gona go by poll i assure you its gona be one way

Well, XT, you may be OK with the current Size as your a Member of the Staff.

80*80 just doesnt cut it.
It looks way tooooo small at 1280*1024 on my 19" LCD.
Just coz you have a nalla 15" Monitor doesnt mean thats the case with all :P.

if u ask me i am with 80x80 size … c’on people its enuf … in some other forums (i don’t like to put a name here) all u can see in the pages is avatars and sigs it really sucks …
about sig i will say remove the pics from the sigs … it sud be only text … it really add to the page loading time …
and i think admins can have the bigger avatar coz they are doing something for this forum and helping TE … at least they deserve that …
talking of other forums … have u seen Rig gallery anywhere

Kidoman uses 16001200. Imagine how small an 8080 avatar must be :P.
8080 just doesnt cut it. I think we should be allowed 100100 and Mods, if its so important, it should be 120*120.

Our Name Tag bar in dark style is as big as 144 pixels in hight here.
So 100x100 wont affect board layout much, hell even 120x120 wont affect layout much.
180x180 can be problamatic, i agree, but 100x100 is nothing, you dont need 19" LCD for 1280x1024.
There is already restriction on sig, thats fine.
It really does not matter bandwidth wise as avatars can be compressed for size.
Personally its nice to see nice avatars in the forum. 80x80 is too chindhi.

yeah i’ll second that. Increase of both sig and avatar will be cool. But only by a little so 56kbp’ers don’t choke.
And i know forums that have as little as 50*50 size avatars. But then they have way larger allowance for sigs
I’m impressed by the number of votes. I’m on your side for 100x100 avatars but two other admins and some of the mods are against us as of now.

Just make it -
Note: The maximum size of your custom image is 100 by 100 pixels or 20 KB (whichever is smaller).

i changed my decision… me for 100*100 for avatars but no changes needed for the siggies.
