Can's access net!

Hey!

Dont really know where to post this so doing it here…

Background Info -Installed xp sp2 yesterday… Using TATA 256 unlimited connection… was getting the “generic host process , win32” error time to time… The funny thing was that I used to be access the net till the time I left the dialog box for “reporting the error to Microsoft” open. The moment I used to close the box, I could not access the net. One of my friends gave me some hotfixes saying he had a similar problem… I installed them and stopped getting this error.

From yesterday evening, a new problem started… When I try to open firefox, it takes an incredibly long time… you can even see it in the task manager… usage rising up from 5 mb till 25… The moment it hits 25 it pops open! Even then the net is not accessible.. Reinstalled ff 4 times, still same problem… :@

Btw, the net is not accesible even through ie and opera…But amazingly, I am being able to download at 30 kbps without any problem..

Posting this from a stupid cyber cafe and would kindly request the pros to help!!! :frowning: :frowning: Missing my comp…

Most likely its the blaster worm.

When the generic host process error comes up (the 1 min countdown),go to run and type “shutdown -a” amd press enter. This should stop the timer.

then follow this link for the steps for removal of the virus

W32.Blaster.Worm Removal Tool - Symantec.com

Boot into safe with networking see if u can access the net.

Go to msconfig and registry and disable all startup programs. See if that helps.
