so whatever is cheapest and runs without issues im looking for , due to work ,been busy to look around so please let those suggestions roll in.

prolly something in buffalo / netgear / linksys ?

thx in advance

cheapest router available here is the netgear wgr614 for 1.8k or else theres the buffalo whrg54s for 2.1k

Buffalo WHR-G54 obviously, its a no brainer.

Wats the difference between the two routers???
Why is bufallo recomended??
Im also searching for the cheapest router available…range again is not an issue, but will it cover a 1100sqft flat wid 2bhk and dining room?

i was offered

WHRG54S -= 2150/-
Buffalo Technology - Products - Wireless-G 125* High-Speed Broadband Router and Access Point

NEW CHEAPER MODLE G125 = 2000/-
Newegg.com - BUFFALO WHR-G125 IEEE 802.3/3u, IEEE 802.11b/g Wireless-G High Speed Router & Access Point - Retail

i got one wifi router from BSNL for free.. because i was first customer of dataone here..

This is good router .. Huawei WA1003A… it is nice though

Soul Fire,
Net gear sucks, crappy firmware, very limited options and really buggy…

Get the WHG4S, its all most the same as the whr-hp-g54…
I had a chance to compare the two and both perfomed really well. The hp model isnt worth the extra 1.8- 2k or so…

You can flash this to a tomato or dd-wrt firmware and get a hell lot of features..
I would recomend the tomato over the ddwrt..

tell me abt it :frowning: , am using the netgear wpn824 rangemax router. range is awesome, much better than the whr hp g54 but performance is really buggy

Buffalo G54S at 2.1k is a no brainer, its superb value or money with fantastic stability and range.

Like Sandy I have both the G54S and the HP G54, its more expensive brother at 3.9k, and both performed admirably. For me the G54S was as good in range and stability as HP G54.

linksys WRT54G. its like the stock buffalo

i use it. very stable , well supported, and easily available, i mean, if you walk out and ask your neighbourhood pc shop for a wireless router, chances are, you’ll get the linksys or the netgear. i bought the linkys because it had 2 antennas and didnt look gay :stuck_out_tongue:

Get buffalo and mod it. Then you can increase power to antenna thereby better range. WRT54G v7 comes with only 2mb of RAM which is not enough for WRT-DD/Tomato hence not supported.

Increasing power to antenna will create more noise and is not really recommended coz its not like you’re gonna get better range with it, the stock settings of tomato work just fine

Well, if you want to get better range, there is only one way. isnt it?

you can use a usb adapter and a frying pan :stuck_out_tongue:

heh yea.. will try the tin foil method this weekend and report back

The cantenna?

I actually tried the EZ12 parabolic antenna, posted the link here sometime ago, since its so easy to make.

Ez-12

Didn’t unfortunately make much of a difference if any at all, maybe it works better for extending range in straight line scenarios.

However you can buy high db antennas abroad like 7-12dbi, those should work better but lots of folks report the simple ez12 parabolic antenna works wonders for them.

yea that doesnt work at all..

I have a 9dbi high gain antenna but I cant attach it to my buffalo’s :frowning: the hole mouting is really small and the antenna’s base is really wide. Only way to fix it is to cut out a bigger hole on the router body :expressionless: with is a pain in the you know where :stuck_out_tongue:
this is for both the g54s and HP g54 :expressionless:
