Confused between Quads

I’m confused between the Q6600, Q9300 and the Q9450.

The Q9450 is being horribly priced in Mumbai with PrimeABGB quoting it at 18.2K.

It it worth it?
Should I wait for prices to go down?
Should I purchase the Q6600 or the Q9300 instead?

I plan to use the processor for intensive Video, Audio, 3D and Photo Editing, hence overclock it till the max. I would use it for running recent and future games. Budget is around 10K - 15K, but I want something which is the best buy for VFM. Should not have heating issues.

i dont know about india but intel is releasing a q8200 soon…which will be 45nm and around 200dollars in the US

i would wait for that one

Get Q6600 193$ 9.3k approx in India, TRUE120 or Xigmatek S1283 and get 8GB RAM, use 64bit OS. Q6600 is good overclocker, 9 Multi. Its VFM, not the high cost quad + 4GB RAM.

Q6600 G0 was 8.9K some days back iirc.
Still very vfm for those who need quads.

Q9450 was 14K odd iirc. :S

Should do 3.2-3.6Ghz 24x7, depending on the chip, with Thermalright Ultima90i and a good psu+good mobo and any DDR2 800 RAM.
Should have a decent case/cabinet with good fans too to avoid heating issues.
Anything higher is not good imho, considering variable temps in non-AC rooms and the high daytime ambients, especially in summer. :cool2:

Yup Q6600 GO stepping (well only GOs are available now)

Not Ultima rather TRUE with Scythe Kaza Jyunki 110 CFM fan and you are all set. Get 4GB RAM incase u wanna use 64 bit OS.

I would say Q8200 is a waste of money if it costs $200. Overclock potential is less compared to both Q6600 and Q9450, has many features cut out and still costs that much. that proccy should not cost more than $150~170

In my opinion Q9300 or Q9450 is the way to go. 45nm process and latest SSE instruction set present in these processors mean performance advantages in many video and 3d applications.

If your planning to overclock on a intel mobo even a q9300 is great deal, most quads are able to do 470fsb and that will land u to, 3.5ghz, which is the same as 3.7ghz for a q6600, which is enough for just about everything! And being a 45nm no heat issues, a 90i should take care of it!

So q9300 is what I would suggest u to go with. And 3.4ghz should be a done deal.

Many people do think and well it is a fact 7.5x multi cant take u to extreme speeds, but a 3.6ghz q6600 is much more harder to live with than a 3.5ghz q9300. And I mentioned a 470fsb on intel, I can do 465 on my 780i and I consider it a poor overclocker so intel should do better.

Oh! Thank you for all the replies. I had read somewhere in a review on Tom or Legitreviews that the Q9300 has great performance in 3D and video, but scales just a little lower in games. But that’s not an issue. Can anyone direct me to somebody on TE or a shop at Lamington where I can purchase the Q9450 at a decent price?

To make it more confusing, it is evident that the Q9450 is going to be discontinued, and the Q9550 “might” step into its price range!

Is this going to make an impact in Indian markets? Should I purchase the Q9550/Q9450 online instead?

Intel is going to drop the 9550 to ~300$ on 10th august. Wait a couple of weeks more for it to reflect here.

Edit: Read it here that its going to be 15K + taxes

Patience is key to virtue…Wait for few days for price drop..

I finally made a choice! I’m going to stick with the Q9300 for the following reasons.

[ul]
[li]Low operating temperatures, since my room is at a good 39 in summer[/li][li]Low power consumption even when overclocked (Its about 35 Watts lower than the Q6600 and the higher E series)[/li][li]Better performance by a huge margin in Video,Photo,Audio and 3D editing[/li][li]Good benchmarks at stock speeds (and I don’t intend to overclock it more than 3.1 Ghz)[/li][/ul]

Thank you pappu,Sidhu and Nemesis for being so helpful to me since I joined TE!

P.S. - I’ll search the forums for the remaining configuration and ask for your final suggestions when I’ve decided.
