Cost of HDMI cable?

Hi Guys,

Have any of you ever purchased HDMI cable? How much do they cost?

I recently bought Philips 5965 DVD player. Dealer gave me a choice - either buy it at MRP Rs 5999/- and get a HDMI cable. Or buy the DVD Player without HDMI cable at around 10% discount.
Since I was tired at that moment and did not really want to go looking for HDMI cable I bought it at MRP and got the HDMI cable with it.

I think I know I made a stupid decision :frowning: . I feel that HDMI cable really couldn’t be worth Rs 600-700. I just want to make sure. Do you happen to know its normal price?
FYI, the cable though looks ordinary, is quite thick and has gold plated ends.

BTW, dealer also showed me a separate very good quality HDMI cable (apparently made in Japan). He told me its current price is 2k! And said that he has sold it before for Rs 2800! :S

^^Thats a good price! A decent HDMI cable is quite expensive. Branded ones are 1.5k-2k.

Else stick with the option your dealer gave you

component & hdmi are different. hdmi has digital sound which component doesnt.

Panasonic HDMI cable is Rs. 1999 MRP, but available for Rs.1500 in chennai.
Philips 5965 DVD player, I bought for a friend some time back for Rs. 5,300.
Considering this you have paid Rs. 700 for the HDMI cable, its not bad.
Local make unbranded HDMI cables are available for about Rs. 600, so you have paid correctly only. (but I don’t know about the quality of the local HDMI cables)

Pretty costly stuff… I got their qunex 2 audio interconnect. That itself costed 2500 odd :P.

I am using Sony HDMI Cable on Philips 5965K dvd player. It costs Rs.2500 n i got it from Delhi. So far i have got no problems n picture quality has increased from component.

Anish, looks like I was not very clear in my first post - I have already got the HDMI cable along with DVD Player. Its just that I was assuming that I paid a very high price for it (Rs 700). But it looks like from replies that I got a fair enough deal.

BTW, I am happy with picture quality I am getting through HDMI on my 720p TV. I am upscaling source to 1080i from my DVD player and then letting my TV downscale /deinterlace it to 720p while displaying it. This is giving me even better picture quality than direct 720p upscale of source from DVD player. Strange!
