Hola,
Would you guys recommend buying ‘aftermarket’ CPU Coolers (Heat Sink + Fans) to reduce Temps and Noise as compared to the Retail Intel HSF’s.
Everything will be run at stock speeds. Would spending the extra 2K or so be worth it??

thats left with u if ur a Ocing then a Aftermarket cooler is a must , if not just buy to show off , FOR STOCK ITS NOT NEEDED.
HAHA Sir…no showoff at all…just less noise!!
What you think the stock cooler makes more noise than your harddisk, gpu, room cooler, room ac??? if yes then maybe you can certainly go ahead and buy a Thermalright Ultra 90, and use it without a fan.
I wouldn’t recommend using a TR U-90 without a fan. I have one, I tried it without a fan (E4300 oc’d to 3 ghz) and it got very hot rapidly. At stock speed, it was very warm and I’m pretty sure you’d need a low speed fan at the least to dissipate all the heat.
well, you can reduce the noise if u use one of the silent fans with lower rpm. I used a SI120 and a coolermaster fan and believe me, i feel like the computer wasn’t turned on at all. Just the Hard disk sound was audible.
kill the speeds of ur CPU fan in ur bio’s
try undervolting first and see, otherwise you can invest in a good heatsink and a low rpm fan. you can also use low rpm fans for intake (definitely have one blowing over hdds) and one exhaust and bring down overall noise
Only if you want to prematurely kill your darling chip.
Ultra90 is not designed for passive use and temps at idle even at stock when run passive are horrible.
But the bent winglet design of teh Ultra series was mainly introduced for better performance with even slow fans.
Thats why even the scythe/sony s-flex fans shine with the TRUE120.
Rock on pal.
I am glad u believed me.
You can see how the tight fin packing of SI128 has now led to the TR SI128 SE so that a slow fan can work fine too- something the SI-120 had achieved earlier.
Reminded me of your sis’s comment.
Totally worth it if it agrees with your senses and sensibility.
Some feel it’s a waste of money when you get a cooler free with the chip- for some- “stock cooler- are you nuts?”
A good heatpipe cooler is not only made for gr33dy people like me to extract more from the processor but actually mainly for providing lower temps with lower levels of noise.
Hasn’t anyone heard of SPCR > silentpcreview.com | Everything about Silent / Quiet Computers
Our very own SPCR unofficial Mumbai HQ is at Eazy’s place.
He doesn’t OC but has owned and has the best hsfs money can buy just for the sake of lowest temps and some peace of mind.
a bit OT. Do u think that playing games like Q4 and Halflife 2 for long periods on a system with stock cooling requires a better cooling solution. even if the CPU is not overclocked and GPU like the 8500GT exists for graphic processing ???
Thanks for correcting me there…i thought that since its such an amazing cooler, it will work without a fan for stock operation…
sunilyo…for normal computing/gaming at stock, you dont need any better cooler, stock will be ok. but if by long operation you mean anything more than continuous 1-2 days without proper ventilation in the case then that might create some issues.
Hey Hey…thats exactly why I am considering it. Also..Delhi does get pretty hot and the ventilation in my room sucks. Since I am gonna be sleeping in the same room as the one in which the computer is I would prefer it to make the least possible noise (PC will be on 24/7)..
