CPU fan not running

Hi all,

I have a p4-1.8 ghz, KOB i845 GLM m/b, 80 GB HDD etc. I opened up the cabinet & found that there was lots of dust in places. So in order to clean it used a cotton cloth & tried to clean it but found that there were lots of places where it couldn't reach. Hence I disconnected all the internal power & data cables as well as the LED indicators. (I had been having problems before this hence also shorted the BIOS jumpers to clear the BIOS.) While cleaning the system manually (m/b being free from cabinet) had opened the levers of the fan to clean the dust on & around the fan & there was lots of dust on & in the fan. Now after connecting the system back again there are 3 major problems :-

Q1. The chip fan is not moving at all. So what could be the issue here or things to check? I double triple checked both the power cable from the PSU to the m/b as well as the 4-pin power supply connection to the m/b. The connections of both are tight.

Q2. The LED indicators for either the hdd as well as the Power are not showing. Is this because of the PSU thing or what?

I asked a computer technician the same thing & one of the questions he asked was when the connection from the m/b to the monitor is given does the monitor blink on & off. This is affirmative.

Another thing is that there is 6 months warranty left on the m/b as well as the chip itself. Thanx in advance

EDIT : Also are there videos or something that one can download to know how to clean systems & as well as some ideas/news about the handy vacumm cleaners u guys use to clean u’r systems. I just read some threads on this.

Check the plastic plugs that connect the power on/reset/led switches to the motherboard. I think their order/polarity is messed up. Consult your mobo manual to fix it.

Have tried doing it twice but will try again & report back tomorrow.
