DealExtreme.com Free shipping?

DealExtreme.com says that it provides Free shipping to all products but does this mean that its products wont get into the customs thing at Indian airport😳

Nope ! There is every likelihood that your shipment will attract customs. But if it is below 5k or something, then you shouldn’t have to pay customs.

Shipping = free.

Customs = extra :stuck_out_tongue:

^^ do you really need to pay customs on that.. i doubt..

i havent bought anything yet, but pretty soon i will..

someone pls clarify..

this is what they say..:slight_smile:

Because DX sends products from Hong Kong (a free port), there is no sales tax or duties imposed by the Hong Kong government. Customers do not have to pay any sales tax or export duties when they purchase from DX.

Statistically, well less than 1% percentage of all DX orders have ever got opened by the Customs in customers’ countries. If the package is checked by their country’s customs office when the item arrives in their country, however, customers are responsible for import duties, tariffs, and taxes.

Although the chance of packages being Customs assessed is small, DX strongly encourages all customers to check with their local Customs office for any potential import taxes, duties, and tariffs. In addition, some products may require special licenses or permits to import (such as high powered lasers). DX is not responsible for products being confiscated by the Customs in customers’ countries.

the products iam thinking of ordering would cost me less than 20$

Whatever you buy, just get it gift wrapped (option avail with DX). If the product worth is less than $100 you would receive it without issues. I used standard shipping. Took 30-35 days :@ . But you can go for EMS shipping which costs extra.

^ gift wrapped, necessary?

the post office guy asked for Rs. 5 as custom(was printed) to me for over $80 package..

There is alreadya a big thread about this site

Not necessary, mine came without it. But then again saves hassle for free. there is $.01 charge for marking it as gift :smiley: .

How do they manage to pull this off ?

I have seen people order like $5 good for DX with free shipping

Shipping itself would be a lot more than $5.

How do they make profits ?

or, is it that there the number of people who order $5 goods and get it shipped are minuscule when compared to the other orders they get

its only a site that they manage, the products are mass produced.. the manufacturing cost is way lower than the retail price..

they have contacts with these manufacturers.. they dont keep any stock.

so as n when the orders come in they pick it from the manufacturers, and ship it..

depends on the costs :slight_smile:

100$ goods would attract customs. Low value stuff ur pretty much ok though in India you can never be sure :wink:

well, in general shipping is not expensive as the handling part (at least in the US). the reason why they upwards of 7 dollar shipping is the handling and packing part.

but dealxtreme ships directly out of hong kong via hong kong post. shipping wud be less and then add to the fact the handling wud be even cheaper

what are the customs charges on musical instruments ??? :S guitar that costs 299$ in US costs ~Rs. 24k in India :frowning:
