Error in MPlayer

When i open a file in MPlayer i get a fatal error saying:

Error opening/initializing the selected video_out (-vo) device

anyone knows how to go about this problem?

Did you install from rpm or you compiled it ?

I’m on Debian, so i used synaptic

long long time didn’t used the MPlayer, so forgot…

try these commands -

$mplayer -vo vesa
$mplayer -vo VESA
-or-
$mplayer -vo x11
$mplayer -vo X11

among these, -vo vesa can play VIDEOs even in pure CUI interface also. I used to do that

go to .mplayer directory in ur home folder

then edit gui.conf

ensure that this line exists

vo_driver = “xv”

apart from MPlayer, which other media players play files of every possible extension including wmv, real media, 3gp etc.
