^ Wow, that’s great, hope it launches resonably in India too…

The ultimate end of IDE cables :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: !

LITEON rocks.
also ASUS.

Nice … can finally say goodbye to IDE cables … hope the other manufacturers follow suit

Woah, dirt cheap I must say!

Wanna see these in Mumbai soon!!

All i need is 2 of these and i could get rid of IDE cables for good

hmm Whos OEM is this?

^^
LiteON?

hmm Masky one question since i’ll be buying my DVDRW tomorrow, what if i plan to change my mobo after a year or around a year and new mobos dont support any IDE ports?

Do you think it might happen?
shud i wait for these?

Its already happening. Most of the OEM boards ship with only single IDE port. But it’ll be a while b4 IDE is completely phased out.
Am not sure if mobo manufacturers will continue to put IDE ports in boards, may be they will. But soon, it’ll all be gone :stuck_out_tongue:

^ Nah its just Intel trying to push for it. Ultimately motherboard manufacturers are the ones adding on IDE ports via 3rd party controllers for the latest Intel chipsets - so they do know that IDE cannot be phased out completely.

Its just probably being reduced to a large extent much the same way as is being done with PCI slots now , but should be a while before they’re completely removed

Even in the worst case scenario - you could always add a PCI IDE controller card to your setup!

i just ordered one from tokyo. my friend already purchased for me. will be with me next week.
Brand - Plexter and cost - 4500 rs. :S

Plexor were the first ones to come out with SATA dvd writers right?

What does this: “and the drive should behave just like one of its IDE counterparts in recent motherboards that **support IDE emulation mode **for SATA drives.” mean ?

From TechReport.

Can somebody tell me the advantages of sata drive over IDE ??

i think it was Asus …not 100% sure though.

will the xp installer detect these drives ? cause some of the mobo’s need you to install the sata drives while loading up the xp installer

I remember it was Plextor.. but could be wrong. This is a damn good drive and useful too.

^ Erm I think it was Pioneer

Hope it reaches India quick though !
