Here’s something for you to start the discussion with -

F1 Central:

The FIA has unveiled proposed rule changes for Formula One in 2008.

After some extracts were leaked to the press, the body provided the entire dossier - targeting a radical ninety per cent reduction in the cost of going racing - in an apparent show of ‘transparency.’

‘‘It is … a draft,’’ a statement explained, ‘‘and … subject to approval … by the world motor sport council.’’

Among the proposals is a standard ECU, a ban on traction control, standard gearbox, brakes and differential, and foot-operated clutches.

The FIA also wants to cut downforce - including banning bargeboards, ‘flip ups’ and winglets - by 90 per cent, widen the cars, end the tyre war and bring back big slicks.

Spare cars would be banned, a 30,000km test limit imposed, and small teams given the option of buying a ‘complete car’ from a bigger competitor.

‘‘The result (of not cutting costs),’’ said the FIA dossier, ‘‘would be non-Formula One cars on the grid.’’

It added: ‘‘Or … the collapse of the championship.’’

That means end of tyre war and FIA will be selecting a single manufacturer at the beginning of the season

darn stupid rules. if i wanted to see old school racing i’d rent a tape of f1 in the 80’s

f1 was best last time with one hour free for all qualifying sessions.

also
the free practice looks intersting, Mclaren 1 and 2 with montoya and kimi respectively, but whats intresting is that Ferrari’s are 3rd and 4th..

i think if i had to, ill put my money on MS looking at his recent form at this circuit..

acc to me, teams to look forward are

Ferrari
McLaren minus Juan sucker Montoya
Red Bull racing
and willaims though the drivers are not upto the mark…

lol..yeah i’m surprised too…ferrari at 3 and 4
but they are atleast 0.5 seconds behind both the mclarens.

Saturday 1st Practice Updates:

F1Central:

Juan Pablo Montoya completed an Indianapolis hat-trick on Saturday morning when he recorded the fastest time in the third session of practice for the United States Grand Prix.

However, the ColombianÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s result was far from disputed with the unusual situation of only eight drivers recording a time.

The lack of results wasnÃ¢â‚¬â„¢t due to a lack of action on track, 18 of the 20 drivers completed over four laps.

[B]The lack of competition was due to major concerns over the safety of the Michelin tyres after two tyre failures during yesterdayÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s action.

The teams using the French rubber were instructed to give the banked turn 13 a miss Ã¢â‚¬â€œ that is the point where the tyres have the highest loading Ã¢â‚¬â€œ so drivers were heading through the pit lane instead.[/B]

It was a bizarre situation to watch with 14 cars parading in and out of the pit lane.

Montoya, along with Red Bull RacingÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s David Coulthard, was the only Michelin men to set a time.

The two Bridgestone shod Ferraris, Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello, finished second and third fastest respectively.

However their pace, one second slower that that of MontoyaÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s McLaren, still left much to be desired and it was clear the Scuderia still had plenty of work to do.

Bizzare!!! I hope this means a 1-2 for Ferrari. Let us see…

If they advised everyone to give the turn 13 a miss, then what the hell are they going to do in the qualifying and the race???

would you believe, michelin runners are considering an appeal to change the coarse in the 11th hour provided rival teams agree to it

omg..michelin runners are in real trouble it seems. lets see wat happens in qualifying and for the race. no predictions frm my side. ferrari mite just have yet another luck

Michelin runners may not race tomm…if FIA doesn’t allow tyre changes.
Michelin to fly in tyres of new specification tommorow morning but
allowing this will violate the FIA rules in place..

There’s a provision where a race with less than 12 participants can be
cancelled. All drivers will take part in qualifying but no one is sure for the
race on account of driver safety.

I think Juan P montoya is pure raw talent , one of the wildest drivers on the circuit … though things dont favour him on paper , therez a reason why Mclaren has him …

Abt Narain — I think the team boss is just biased. I mean, Narain is an Asian and all that. Thge truth is that they favour Europeans more than others. They are just playing around with him and giving him a hard time.

And anyway, I think Michelin has sorted out their problem. At leats for the time being.

The smart thing by Bridgestone would be to NOT oppose any change in the tyres by Michelin. They teams have not set up their cars for the new tyres being flown in from France. So, the new tyres will not work as well as they should. This is where BS should capitalise…

fact of the matter is narain is pushin too hard and frankly pushing too hard on a not so good car and impressing some guys for 3-4 laps and then crashing out of the race ain’t gonna please any team. Tiago is on the other hand more slow, steady and does not bang around like our guy. And in the end he has top 10 finish to show for it.
No point bringing bias into this. While there may be bias in f1, i don’t deny that, in this case its just bad driving.(or maybe too exuberant driving for ones own good)
