GeForce 9800 GT is a rebadged 8800 GT

According to Expreview, a source has told them that the upcoming GeForce 9800 GT is nothing more than a rebadged 8800 GT with the addition of an extra SLI connector for 3-Way SLI support.

It wouldn’t amaze us the least if this really is the case, as it wouldn’t be the first time Nvidia is rebranding old technology and pretends that it’s something new.

In this case they might change the clock speeds of the cards, but it seems like they want people to upgrade to a card that won’t offer any real benefits over the current generation, unless you’re willing to blow the cash required for a three card setup.

So far this is only a rumour, but an interesting one none the less and it doesn’t seem completely unlikely.

if this is true then some hope for ATI getting some share.

^^it is… they are still using the g92 core for the 9800gt

it will perform similar to an 8800ultra

i beg to differ…on dat…88 ultra so totally makes a nu platform…

…as far as 9800gt or 8800gt goes 8800gt g92 so totally does justice to its price…but twikin it a bit n jus incrementin 8 to 9 is wat nvidia has been playin for a long time…

conclusion: it all comes down to fro where ur jumpin from.

…a jump from ny thin more den 8600gt to 9800gt is a serious no no.

Ahhhh…for nvidia

This is why we need competition!!!

Sigh.. Ati!!! Where art though???
