Need suggestions on a good dual dvi card. Will be getting it through a friend from US, so links/deals from newegg/zzf and others would be helpful.
Usage:
mainly desktop apps, many putty/ssh sessions, browser… maybe a bit of photoshop/GIMP and once in a while for watching movies.
Min requirements:
Dual dvi (hope to get 2 19" or 20" displays by year end), 256MB mem (would 128 do?). Not particular about DX10, I usually dont use windows. Should be good enough for next 2-3years.
I think Nvidia cards are better for Linux, so what about 7600GS or 7600GT? opinion on these or alternatives would be helpful.
Budget: around $120, stretchable if its really worth but dont want to spend on features I really wont need.
Connect3D X1900GT is available for less than 7600GT($115 shipped), but should I go for this? I think xfx 7600gt with lifetime warranty is just good enough.
Have got a day to decide, could any of the guys give some input. Im a total noob when it comes to graphics cards.
That X1900GT is an excellent deal. Much better than the 7600GT in terms of features and performance. You should get that.
About the lifetime waranty, don’t bother with that, unless you don’t plan to upgrade in the next 3 years of so.
The thing about ATI cards and Linux is…well crappy driver support
Unofficial Linux Drivers do exist but if u want peace of mind i’d that you suggest stick with NV 7600 GT, not as good as X1900GT but good enough for your needs, especially the OS envt
ya, this is what making me more confused. NV definitely has better drivers for Linux, but the ATI based price/performance is pretty good. But I think I will have to pass the goodies and stick to what saves me all the headache :(. or maybe will search on how good ATI drivers are and then decide.
Thanks for the inputs though. Both posts were helpful. Any more are definitely welcome
