Hard Disk not recognised

Hi,
This is my first post on this site. I have a very peculiar problem. I have two IDE hard disks a Seagate 250 GB Barracuda & another old Seagate 10 GB. My problem is that when I connect the 250GB HDD through an External USB Casing, it works without any problems, but when I connect the 10 GB HDD through the same casing it does not show up in my computer. Sometimes after rebooting I get a message “The external USB Device is not recognised”. I tried connecting it other USB ports, but still not detected. If
the same HDD is connected directly to the IDE Cable it works ( It has Windows 98 installed on it). I cannot connect it directly to the pc as my motherboard does not support Windows 98. I need some documents from the drive. Please Help
Thanx in advance

External HDDs have to be set as a Master HDD, check the jumper at the back of the 10GB HDD. If it is jumpered as a Slave HDD then this is most likely the problem.

I believe this is power problem.
When u connect it directly through IDE cable it gets the required power , but when you do the same thing through USB , it won’t get the required power supply.
Try to use that USB cable which has two connectors.
