hdd: won't format ! or delete the partition

Ok, So I left 100GB of partition to format on my hdd and I had to go out. Normally if i leave the PC ‘On’ the PC is left ‘On’ but today! when I got back it was ‘Shut Down’ !..So I feared the worst and I started it back up…It showed that the partition is ready to use and stuff , but no I had to be sure and hence I decided to re-format it…now…

the following pts. applicable to that partition :

  1. it doesnt quick format…
  2. it doesnt do a full format…
  3. it doesnt format using Disk Manager…
  4. doesnt format / delete partition even using 3rd party disk manager tool…

Now wat ! ?

Edit : Its been 10 mins now and its still stuck trying to do something…dammm…:cry:

use norton partion magic and report back, should most probably work

Try delete the partition with the freeware Ranish Partition Manager. I have used this a few times and have got out of similar problems.

ab1 , eazzy thanks for the replies, i already tried both the ways mentioned by you but nothing helped , i booted into another copy of winxp , where the same thing happened and it refused to do anything…the only thing that came to my rescue was ‘vi$t@’ where the inbuilt disk manager was able to reformat the entire partitions , its fine up and running now…
