My cousins hotmail account was hacked a couple of days ago, by a weird friend of hers who used some software on a cd to change both her password and her secret question. She wrote to microsoft, but they told her that she needs to be able to answer her secret question to gain access to her account, but thats been changed as well.
Does anyone know what she can do to get her account back?
Her friends not Indian, and lives in a different country, so I don’t think legal actions possible.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks.
I’m really sorry to tell you but you can’t hack into the account of that hot chick you’ve been stalking on orkut/facebook.
Okay realistically speaking, there’s nothing you can do, except getting her keylogged or using brute force (which rarely works nowadays).
^^ I am not as confident about online safety as you are anish
Lot of things still work (at least last time I tried):
-
network sniffing ( for cyber cafe gals :P)
-
browser exploits ( metasploit anyone)
-
hotmail hack scripts for embedding in mail itself ( tough to code them now though!)
-
same old dirty chat trick and then send some “gift” OR get IP and
do security analysis on it.
Point is stupid and naive people will always get hacked no
matter how advanced security software gets.
Also the focus has now shifted to “cocktail” type hacks and not 100%
pure technical exploits.

Well smart dude, do you know who the weird friend is? If yes then catch him,
what the ****ing problem?
software on a cd: what software? Be more specific.
And tell your cousin to stay away from jerks and use her head as often as possible.
^ Well I doubt any of those methods work, but I’m as new to hacking as you are so maybe some Black Hat here can comment!
The software most probably must have been a keylogger. Those things are freakin brilliant!
They even e-mail logs back to you and can be hidden from Add/Remove Programs, Task Manager, etc etc!

^^ he mentioned that the friend stays in different country…
btw… why doesn’t she open a new account instead
Shes been using her current email address for ages, so she obviously wants it back…and you’re probably right about her account being hacked through key logging software. She was visiting her friend in Brazil and probably logged on to check her mail on her friends computer, and that must have been when her password was stolen. Her account was hacked while she was on the plane back home.
Anyway…what can she do now?
Anish, I’m not sure of how good you are at it, but I can testify to dhirukholia’s skillz he’s more of a white hat these days tho
^ Edit : Oh my, I have no clue of dhirukholia’s skillz, I’m pretty new to it, he’s the man to get in touch with then!
bah…hes been at it since our college days (thats referring to him n me :))
