How do i pack .divx files to .avi?

Any program to convert divx files to avi?
Explain this to me, AVI just ‘contains’ the divx/Xvid codec vids right?

AVI= Audio Video interlaced, i.e. there are separate audio and Video streams that are packed together in one avi file which works as a container.

The Audio and Video streams could be using any compression codecs or could even be uncompressed streams.

However, very often, people use DivX/xVid codecs for the video part and Mpeg-layer III for the audio in most commonly available avi’s

so when you say how to change a divx to a avi, i think the question needs a little more elaboration

oh, i get it. never mind about the converting part. Its okay now.

lol this reminds me about some proggie bundled with divx player earlier which is used to rename all the divx avi files extension to .divx for easy recognition to those who are not quite familiar with it

hmmm, the new Dr. divx (codec version 6) , (which is incompatible with many divx dvd players) gives every file a *.divx file ext.

its sad these files dont wrk on the dvp642, cuz the new version 6 is extremly fast in encoding.

Hmmm…AFAIK Divx is a codec and .avi is the extension obtained after conversion.Though you may also get .divx extensions sometimes depending on the software you use.Try Virtual Dub as its the best open source program to get your videos compressed in various Codec compression modes. The resulting output is definetly an .avi file.
