i am looking to get 3 workstations. basically iam sure of processors. its gonna be dual core dual opterons 275 for each workstations. mobo is def tyan.please let me know where i can find this processors and ram and mobo for this kinda high config for any dealers u know.. i know 3 but want to know more cos investment is high.
i just wanted to know which cabinet and power supply to go for .. what memory and which type of HD. also the best UPS with min 15-20 mins back up. does anyone have knowledge about high speed routers for networking for 3-4 workstation on min 1GB ethernet
sorry dint get what u said.. i wrote about what kind of cabinet power suppl… ram and HD is good to buy..
dint get ur question.. requirements in the scence
ok work wise.. i will run 3dsmax on them for rendering suff.. 3d stuff basically minimum graphic card i want is of 256 MB.. not more than 15k.. suggest.!!!
ok guys need help.. here i am posting two mobos from tyan.. one is high end and other one is a bit grade down.. difference in price is 9k. do let me know whats the major diffference i should be looking out for. cos iguess what i can undrstand is its all abou pci express x16 and x4 lines.. please let me know ur gentl..
yeah i alreadycontactedthem today morning… but basically i need the tech details of what the difference between those 2 mobo… why is it that both are performance mobos but still the latter is higher
Max, if you use these basically for rendering, then you’ll be wasting a lot of money. I would suggest for your main workstation, get a standard single core opty, 2gb ram, and invest in a good gfx card. ( A 6800gt can be softmodded to a quadro. Not sure about the 7-series).
And for the rendering part, well its quantity that matters here Get as many 1U machines as you can afford. They don’t need exorbitant configs.Say, A64 3000+, 1gb ram ( or maybe 2gb). Thats it. Onboard video will do. And of course you’ll need a KVM switch.
I’m not sure about Final Render, but Mental Ray supports distributed rendering even for single images.
i need procesing power..am i mean real raw power.. anything less than dual core dual opteron is not worth investing for me.. cos i will tell uone thing. softwares i use get new versions and latest tech in them very soon which requires lot of procesing power. secondly bying and single core will not help cos that will reduce processing pergformance way down the hell.. graphic card i dont need really really nigh end cos i dont do lots of modeeling stuff.. iam into architectural stuff… FR and MR both support DR … i will give u one test example..
a rendering which takes 5.57 mins on my dual MP amd 2800+ .. compare thiswith rest now he benchmaks are from FR forum.
Well, in that case, go for Dual core Socket 939 Optys. They don’t require ECC ram, which will save you some cash, thus allowing you to add more rendering nodes For a render server, only the cpu and ram is important. Actually, even ram isnt a big problem. I feel 1gb should be enough for each node.
Of course, getting 2 x dual core Optys (s940) would be much faster, but then you’ll be way beyond the point of diminishing returns.
Edit: - About the Tyan boards - The thunder k8we is their top of the line workstation board. 2 pci-e 16x slots means you can plonk in two QuadroFX cards, and with NVidia’s Gelato, watch the render times plummet!
what point of no return… for me i think its like fill it shut it forget it types… .. also memory plays imp role for me.. cos i need to cache scene with minimum 1 -2 million polygons for rendering with lights around a typical jewellery shop comtains 75-100 lights which require lot of ram to process.. .. ideal for me is 4GB but then i guess its too much for now.. i can work way round… also i am right now not looking for rendernodes…
one thing i can do.. i can get 2 dual core 4400 and one opteron dual 275.. what say.
i am not ready for gellato yet.. too much for hat.. for me a graphic card like 68oogt would be good.. basicall i just need my max viewport not to slow down when there are 2 million polyygons in it.. thatsall . . rest is all render power.. so i guess tyan 2877 is good for me since it has sinlge pci-e slot ranther than 2… say what ?
Yup, a 6800gt would be good enuff.( especially after softmodding ) And for the rendering part, well I really believe in render nodes Specially since the distributed rendering has really improved a lot. Think about a render farm. You can start small, and then go on adding machines when required.
Edit: Yo say you need 3 workstations. Are they cause three people will be working, or you need two just for rendering?
yes 3 people working now. thats why.. right now i am holding my investment on nodes.. it requires a good place andcooling which i dont have now.. righ now for next one year i want o start my studio with best machines…
