Intel aims to put up its 1st quadcore at CES,Las Vegas in less than 2 weeks time. Read On :S
Eh :S. Core 2 Quad is available since 2 months :P.
Lol this is the Q6600 they’re introducing ie second quad core, the first one QX6700 was available since 2 months as chaos said
Intel seems to be in too much hurry… people are now just beginning to move to dual-core after a year of Core 2. They should have fabbed “real” quad cores and then made so much noise!!
Why? If they can sell “fake” quad cores, why should they care about “real” quad cores?
coz…its not just about selling and making money! Sometimes its about how good your product can be and how much less you waste your money!!
Even “fake” quad cores are very good.So why not?
when you say “less you waste your money”, if by “you”, you are referring to the consumer, then all I have to say is that the “enthusiasts” who are so obsessed with getting the “latest” and “greatest” deserve everything they get - good or bad, they’ll lap it up. They have the money and the knowledge to take care of themselves.
And Intel is making money. I don’t see this as a case of a rip-off. Intel isn’t claiming something untrue, or being stubborn or anti-competitive. I wouldn’t buy that product, but I have no problems with their selling it. It really is better than anything AMD can provide right now.
Intels QX6700 is indeed mopping the floor with AMD at the moment, haven’t checked much on how it goes up against the 4X4, which by the way is up at newegg, and the Asus 680a mobo for sale there is 430$…I think that you’ll need 4 sticks of RAM for the 4X4.
I’m more interested to know when they are bringing the QX6700 to India and at what price.
My AI scripting is faulty
What’s wrong with the product? Its performs well and it beats AMd’s 4X4 convincingly and consumes much less power and ultimately costs less too. And as for waste of money, in fact the yields are 22% higher and costs 12% lower(or something like that) because its a dual dual-core rather than a true quad core
You need 4 sticks to run the memory in dual channel mode iirc, which gives the best performance. Otherwise u can run it even with 2 sticks with a performance penaltly. The QX6700 is available in India, costs approx 50k
Well maybe where you are it is available but I asked some people at Intel directly and they told me that first it will be coming to Bangalore/Mumbai and then later on to Kolkata.
X-bit labs - Hardware news - Intel’s Quad-Core Chips Set to Be More Affordable.
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 processor, which is expected to be unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in several days, will cost $531 in 1000-unit quantities, not $850 as previously anticipated, several media reports claim. Its price point will make the quad-core processor just $1 more expensive compared to the current price of Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 chip, which has a bit higher clock-speed.
$531 at launch ? Q2 '07 has come earlier than expected.
Why? If they can sell “fake” quad cores, why should they care about “real” quad cores?
Remember what happened to PentiumD’s .. u might find a E6600 oc’ed better than a Q6600 ..
^^Absolutely correct Intel produces fake cores ..
@ Deathvirus, But Intel have worked out the Twirks, and you actually get 90% of performance scaling. Unlike the hardly 60% scaling for the Pentium D’s. The Core 2 Quads are good CPUs. Good Quad Core cpus, even though they may be 2 Conroes glued together. Who cares when you get the performance?
Plus, Intel are bringing Yorkfield, their native/true QuadCore by 2H 07 anyways. Again, b4 AMD. Plus its gonna be on the 45nm process. So expect crazy amounts of Cache.
If anything, the Native quad core round is going to be a Stalemate at most. I cant see AMD pulling ahead.
Runs away from AMD fanboys
