To upgrade an unlocked 1.0.2 to 1.1.1, you need to revirginize the phone,upgrade, then unlock
However, the revirginizing process is not yet as stable as it should be
SO do not do the upgrade as of now
And anyway, why fix somthing that ain’t broken?
1.1.1 does not add any major functionality anyway (unless you intend to buy songs from the itunes store)
when i dock my ipod to PC, it shows in Itunes that a new firmware software version 1.1.1 is available for ur iphone. i did not update thinking that it may brick my phone. so if i update my phone thru Itunes, will it brick? thanks and you deserve a rep.

you need to revirginize the phone (i.e bring it back to the original locked state first) before the upgrade
Getting it back to the original locked state is not very straightforward…
Avoid getting into that mess…there’s no added benefit of gng to 1.1.1
