Irc

Hi , how about creating our own IRC channel ? I was just searching for TechEnclave IRC channel and found nothing .. if Cdfreaks have it , why cant we? () …

Please consider this… .
thanks

i think, this issue was asked or considered a while ago about having irc channel / live chat for TE.

Chat was implemented too for a while.

The problem is irc is hard to moderate and control. And its TE’s name that is attached to it. Can cause problems for TE is something / someone/ some people dont go by rules

Lets wait for official response from staff anyway.

irc is not hard to control , i am on undernet #India and being an operator you can control everyone chatting with rules…i think its a nice way to go , since everyone is online all the while , we can hook up …

ps: theres another guy over there whos also here … up yers too dakxie

Funky, we did have live chat on TA .. But it was a big farce . no body bothered to come.. I’m pretty sure IRC will work out.. only if everyone joins!

We can’t run our own server for obvious reasons(host won’t allow)
and on known servers, an integrated chat usually means people come there discuss and go off. We all felt its better to have that discussion on forums.

And as someone rightly said, we don’t want to enter anything in the official name, where atlease some staff can’t be present round the clock.

And we cant have TB trolling the IRC channel too you know :expressionless:

heh… anyway i think it is a good idea, but can be implemented after “some time”

isnt this discussed long b4, even flashchat was introduced.. prob is very few active ones and no one to take care of it all the time…added is the server load…

sorry its just a chat room with the channel name Techenclave… we have so many chat rooms with whatever names on irc , people come talk nonsense and leave …what gives? … whats the paranoia of starting a channel and people talking there…and even if something is trashing it , its not like you guys will get into trouble coz its under your official name

it will just be a place to have fun and chitchat

its not about techenclave getting into trouble. Its the name and reputation of TE getting into trouble over net.

What if some jack@$$ decides to join every now and then and trash the people online or target 1 person. that cannot be controlled much on irc.

And this was discussed multiple times in past, and answer from admins was no then and its no now.

Sooo…

Create an unofficial chat room, Go join Quakenet or something and create a channel there. Put up a sticky on the forums, set a disclaimer - whatever happens on IRC isn’t TE’s business or whatever. Everyone then make it a point to idle there and get your TE buddies to join.

Flash and Java based chats were never practical. Use mIRC or Miranda or some IRC client, it’ll sit in your system tray and eat 2MB of RAM. Go Go! #techenclave @Quakenet maybe? :stuck_out_tongue:

okay there goes… let me start a channel at undernet , because thats where i idle, and how about some name of channel that you guys choose? … Chatenclave? so who wants to join ..how about that idea?

I guess anything except techenclave or funenclave will do. To use these 2 names u need admin permission.

Other than that, you are free to use whatever you want

Alright then, for now Quakenet - #chatenclave - irc.quakenet.org

Participation is essential :P! Keep your IRC clients on all the time. We should probably make a new thread to announce this once its finalized along with steps on how to join for those not familiar with IRC.

hey im in as well 8 ) …happy may day ! 8 )

I had been an irc mod for almost two years before i quit. Lemme clear few misconceptions

What if some jack@$$ decides to join every now and then and trash the people online or target 1 person. that cannot be controlled much on irc.

There are few things known as kicks and bans on either ip , domain or nicks. while the nick ban may not be useful, but ip ban ise very useful and also the Sops (super ops ) can maintain a whitelist and blacklist which is more than enough to moderate a channel)

If you want , a nick can be made to talk on registration only, which will be pretty much close to the forums.

The bots (or robots) are useful in carrying out the kicks and bans and can be configured to many of the thousand options that one can have ( like kick a nick if it types in more than 5 words in 3 seconds ). On contrary to what few ppl think that a mod cannot be 24 hrs online, but ur nick can certainly be online and the script that u use can certainly take care of all the nuisance

And frankly speaking, In IRC, its much easier to maintain decorum than in forums

How much control you can gain over the nicks can be decided by which servers you join. Dalnet gives the most secure options than Quakenet or Undernet coz of nick registration facilities.

khimera which channel were u on?

[OT] 12 channels. Chataholics, Cyberworld, Justchillin, Geniuz were few of the main ones. Was an op in 9 channels and SOP in 3 channels [/OT]

dhal nutter huh :stuck_out_tongue:

How about #FauxEnclave or #ChatEnclave @ Quakenet?
Enough of a name change for any plausible deniability while still associative.

#chatenclave is up on irc.quakenet.org
