Is this config a good choice?

Hi,

I would like to get a few opinions for the following config that I have recommended,

Intel Q9300 - 11.5K

MOBO - 8K

2GB DDR2 800 MHz - 3K

Zotac GeForce 9800GT - 9K

Corsair VX450 - 3.2K

CABBY- 3K

Samsung SH-S223F DVD - 1.2K

HDD WD 320GB SATA - 3K

19" Viewsonic/DELL/HP (decide after seeing) - 11K

APC 650 VA - 3.5K

Keyboard and Mouse - 1.5K

Total - ~60K (with taxes)

I haven’t decided on the components in bold above. Would be great to hear a few suggestions for the same.

which ddr2 are you referring to? at 3K? iirc the XMS twin pack 2x1GB comes around 2500.

That saved ur 500 bucks now put those 500+ another 3/400 and get that CM690 everyones gonna recommend you.

whats gonna be the usage here? If its gaming, then lose the q and settle for the best c2d you can afford in the price range.

Intel Q9400 - 13.5K try to get the E8500 (9.5k) / E8600 unless you are going to use this PC for 3D rendering and stuff.

MOBO - Asus P5Q 7.5k

2GB DDR2 800 MHz - 2.5k

ATI 4850 - 9.5K

Corsair VX450 - 3.2K

CM 690-4.2K

Samsung SH-S223F DVD - 1.2K

HDD WD 640GB SATA - 3.6K

22" Dell - 12.5K

APC 650 VA - 3.5K

Keyboard and Mouse - 1.5K

when ur spending 9k on gfx put in a hundred or so more and get a 4850 from one of the dealers here on TE.

get an ASUS P5Q.. highly recommended. or the P5Q-E if on a very tight budget.

and save on the fancy RAM nd get Transcends with powerchip chips nd brainpower pcb. very nice value oc’er.

Go for IP45 Mobo for around 6k and CM690 for 4k as a case…1k less

I couldn’t find the Q9400 anywhere? is it available in India?

Do you mean this ASUS board?

Here is the Q9400

Price diff of Q9300 and Q9400 is 250 bucks @ techshop

Thanks for the links but I’m not sure if the Q9400 is worth the 2K more (the cost of Q9300 as most other sites is 11.5K).

Initially I had chosen the Q9300 over the Q6600 (again a diff of 2.5K) and hence don’t want to go up another 2.5K now.

Also is ASUS the best choice among the P45’s?

A 4850 would be a much better investment for 9000 bucks. Add 300 which u can save from memory and go for the one Phoenix is selling for 9300. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Thanks for all the suggestions folks, so the revised config is this now,

Intel Q9300 - 11.5K
ASUS P5Q Mobo - 8K
2 x 1GB DDR2 800 MHz G-Skill RAM - 2.3K
ATI 4850 - 9.5K
Corsair VX450 - 3.2K
CABBY ??- 3K or less (the CM690 seems too costly. Is there any other choice at around 3K?)
Samsung SH-S223F DVD - 1.2K
HDD WD 320GB SATA - 3K
19" Viewsonic/DELL/HP (decide after seeing) - 11K
Keyboard and Mouse - 1.5K
APC 650 VA - 3.5K
Total - ~60K (with taxes)

TIA

Nope. He is more into programming and Web apps development (heavy database usage etc.) so a Quad would be definite advantage over a Duo in this case.

And gaming when not doing anything else.

19" lcds would be around 9 - 9.5K
cabby - go for CM Elite series - arnd 1.7-2K

Oh thats good (more savings :)).
Are the CM Elite’s better than the Zebronics ones in the same price range?

Since you are saving 1.5k from you LCD monitor budget I recommmend you get the CD-690 … its worth every penny .. roomy .. spacious .. which translated to lower temps in cabby…will be a boon for cable managementtoo..go for elite if you dont have the space in your room for a big cabby…else get the CM-690..the elite is good ..but its small and cable management is a headache .. besides the cabinet is small so it can get pretty warm inside.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing myself.

But at the CM website I see that the CM-690 is mainly for SLI setups. Would this be overkill for a non-SLI setup?
I want it to be worth spending money on (it’s money after all :)) and not just get it because we can?

Its good for SLI as well as non SLI .. IF u have the noney and IF space for cabinet is not a constraint get the 690.

Check this thread .. you will get an idea about the cabinet .. you will find that none are multi GPU

Wow! some of the modded cabby’s there look gorgeous.
Think I’d recommend the CM-690 then as it is still within budget and space is not a prob (at the moment at least).

Where where?? any Link/info??

Few updates on the bangalore price:

Asus P5Q - 7.5k
Transcend 2x2GB - 3.4k (just get powechip, as good as G.Skill look for P besides the bar code)
Samsung SH-S223F - 1.04K
HDD WD 640GB SATA - 3.8K (adding mere 0.8k fetch you 320GB more with superb perfomance, else settle for seagate 250GB single platter for 2.1k)
DELL SE198WFP - 9K
MX518 & Logitech Multimedia- 1.7K
APC 650 VA - 3K

Good Luck

I think u better look for a N after the barcode on the Transcend RAMs, which implies Micron D9 chips which are far more better than the Powerchips. Anyone, correct me if i am wrong…
