Thanks for all the suggestions folks, so the revised config is this now,
Intel Q9300 - 11.5K ASUS P5Q Mobo - 8K
2 x 1GB DDR2 800 MHz G-Skill RAM - 2.3K
ATI 4850 - 9.5K
Corsair VX450 - 3.2K CABBY ??- 3K or less (the CM690 seems too costly. Is there any other choice at around 3K?)
Samsung SH-S223F DVD - 1.2K
HDD WD 320GB SATA - 3K
19" Viewsonic/DELL/HP (decide after seeing) - 11K
Keyboard and Mouse - 1.5K
APC 650 VA - 3.5K
Total - ~60K (with taxes)
Since you are saving 1.5k from you LCD monitor budget I recommmend you get the CD-690 … its worth every penny .. roomy .. spacious .. which translated to lower temps in cabby…will be a boon for cable managementtoo..go for elite if you dont have the space in your room for a big cabby…else get the CM-690..the elite is good ..but its small and cable management is a headache .. besides the cabinet is small so it can get pretty warm inside.
But at the CM website I see that the CM-690 is mainly for SLI setups. Would this be overkill for a non-SLI setup?
I want it to be worth spending money on (it’s money after all :)) and not just get it because we can?
Wow! some of the modded cabby’s there look gorgeous.
Think I’d recommend the CM-690 then as it is still within budget and space is not a prob (at the moment at least).
Asus P5Q - 7.5k
Transcend 2x2GB - 3.4k (just get powechip, as good as G.Skill look for P besides the bar code)
Samsung SH-S223F - 1.04K
HDD WD 640GB SATA - 3.8K (adding mere 0.8k fetch you 320GB more with superb perfomance, else settle for seagate 250GB single platter for 2.1k)
DELL SE198WFP - 9K
MX518 & Logitech Multimedia- 1.7K
APC 650 VA - 3K
I think u better look for a N after the barcode on the Transcend RAMs, which implies Micron D9 chips which are far more better than the Powerchips. Anyone, correct me if i am wrong…
