See below screenshot and black is black in KMPlayer, gray in others, lacks details. I compared it against GOM, MP Classic w/ Klite Codecs, Real Player, VLC, DivX Player. All these have same quality, but KMPlayer is completely differant, amazing colors.

maybe something to do with default settings of postprocessing etc.
You can achieve similar and even better things in MPC HC or WMPC if you use proper rendering. Hali render and EVR both offer deeper contrast and great colours.
Well Even if you install codec packs in your computer, KMPlayer decoder will not be affected i.e, itāll play your files with its own codecs till you change the settings. KMPlayer uses Gabest codecs for playback.
^ So does it mean KMP is best? I tried same movie same scene together on classic media player and KMP, Classic was way superior. Black was jet black in CMP, grey in KMP. While installing i selected all āHigh Qualityā settings.
With KMplayer if you overdo the contrast youāll lose out on the details especially if the movie is shot in dark locations.
Buddy, difference is there coz of better default Contrast setting in KMPlayer.. Iām not surprised, i can achieve even better results on MPC by manually setting Video features in Catalyst Control center once for all..
KMP is tweakable like anything, and best is its out of the box support. Not recommended with h264 files though
Less than Black Blacks can be seen in any player be it KMP or MPC. It depends on the renderer you chose.
Iāve noticed that the DX9 renderless mode in MPC shows Blacks in a somewhat washed out Grey hue.
Sin City is a good test of this.
Yaar 99% users dont like to tweak, play with settings. Its like saying I can achieve even better IQ results on nVidia by manually setting features in Control Panel once for all, ATI offers best IQ out of the box support, thats only people care .
Yes and if you use two video players at the same time just for comparison of picture quality, video renderers will not be the same . It changes I guess. Thats why you see different IQ in the second player.
Use Haali renderer for best color.

That wil make some crappy looking movies wayyy more sober..
compare that with your own contrast settings!!!
Yes you do loose a bit of detail in dark scenes..but sometimes if the prints are bad, this almost improves it by 200%
