Linux Mint 3.0 Light Edition Released

The Linux Mint team has released last night a light edition of their successful Linux operating system, Linux Mint 3.0 (codename Cassandra). This Light Edition was created especially for the users that live in countries where the legislation allows software patents to be enforced, and doesn’t contain:

[li]Proprietary software[/li][li]Patented technologies[/li][li]Support for restricted formats[/li][/ul]

In other words, in this Light Edition of Linux Mint 3.0 (Cassandra), you will not find proprietary software such as:

[li] Macromedia Flash[/li][li] Support for encrypted DVDs[/li][li] Windows codecs[/li][li] Support for restricted multimedia formats[/li][li] Unrar[/li][li] Sun Java (replaced by GIJ)[/li][/ul]

However, the Light Edition includes all the other technologies from **Cassandra **such as: mintInstall, mintMenu or mintConfig. The Linux Mint Software Portal will soon contain .mint files for the Light Edition users to be able to add codecs and multimedia support in one simple click.
