Maxtor OneTouch Mini III Vista Issue!

Okay my brand new Maxtor OneTouch III Mini 80GB USB HDD very conveniently does NOT support Vista x64

Any clues on a workaround would be appreciated, else, any other sleek, USB powered 80GB HDD which is known works in Vista x64?

Knowing you i already know you would have tried it but just in case… Did you tried checking out the latest updates on the Maxtor site or tried it with the new service pack…

workaround would be to have a windows xp live CD and then use the damm thing…

Edit: Just realised you need it to work with Vista and that too 64Bit :stuck_out_tongue:

I was reading something about a guy having this issue and he did this:

Vista won’t recognize USB external hard drives that work fine in XP

Hopefully this should help. Even if you get another hard drive or convert to fat32 or format to ntfs on windows vista, nothing will happen. Hopefully this should work

Heheh, tried that already mate!

There is a f/w update for Veestaa x86, not x64 :frowning:

Thanks a ton for the help mate, but it sadly didn’t work :frowning:

The WD Passport series should work. I know that their bigger HDs do work (I have a 500GB external WD working on Vista x64 like a charm).

Edit : Worked perfectly!

Sorceror’s fix + pluggin into rear USB port.

Apparently the fron USB’s don’t have enuf power to run the drives, thanks so much mate, reps due!

and many times if it does not work , this is what i do and till date even my 20gb external pata has worked. PLUG IN THE USB N REBOOT . IT WILL SAY DRIVE NO RECOGNIZED , JUS IGNORE AND CHECK MY COMPUTER THE DRIVE IS ALREADY there .

Heh, for my 120gig external I have to use 2 USB connectors on my desktop. Wokrs fine with just one connector on my laptop though. Power issue certainly.

 HE HE HE…it was hard to find that idea, I had to open 57 tabs to find that XD. Credit goes to clusty search engine. Google lets me down these days
