My 6600GT dead?

hello TE’s members.
i owe MSI 6600GT graphics card.
while playing prince of persia the two thrones, my game freezed and then i had to press reset button. i thout that must b some minor glitches. but then when i restart, bios screen is perfect then the next screen i get is having vertical red and green coloured lines. and the display before windows boot screen has - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

above kind of patterns. actually those breaking lines r white n background black :open_mouth: wat seems to b the problem? and on windows XP boot screen i get again corrupt lines like above in various colours. wat seems to be the problem? my screen goes blank after windows boot up screen and cant see welcome screen. i tried everything, opened heatsink, cleaned card thoroughly, checked slot but my geforce 4 old card is working which im using now. is this sign of my dead 6600gt? can i repair it? :thinking:

Clean your motherboard, cpu,vid card with an industrial level blower, rent one from a nearby electric / AC repair shop. Its not necessary that your vid card is dying, but it could be.

If you havent cleaned your system in a while, the dust particles could accumulate on sensitive parts of the system making the system act anomalous at times.

but my geforce 4 works like a charm without clitches. i cleaned my sys with vacuum. any other way? how much new 6600GT costs? or ill buy new 6600 gt non gt :frowning:

sometimes it can be because of a lose monitor cable :wink: check the cable first :stuck_out_tongue:

Don’t you have the card in warranty? Was it bought in India or abroad?

most probably it looks like gfx memory problem …

Check the cables, and test the card on another machine. See if works fine. Also what psu are you using ? And if nothing works rma the card provided you have got it in india and its within warranty.

I can tell ya the card is Dead. Those kind of patterned lines will appear only when the card is dead. It has happened to my 6600GT which i got replaced though.

i got my 6600gt from abroad. i think not a monitor prob. cause geforce 4 works. how much 6600GT cost in mumbai?

6600GT 128MB is cost u around 8.5-9k

is my prob repairable? wat things should i do at home to overcome this prob :frowning: how much non GT 6600 cost? hows 6200TC comparable to my 6600GT?

6200TC is a major major downgrade from 6600GT.

Its not repairable.
Try using it on another system though.
Also, the 6600GT, uses a lot more Power than a Geforce4, Which PSU do you have?

i have colorsIt 400watts PSU which works nice since a year+ and i was using this card on this psu since 1 year and worked fine till today looks like its memory prob on card. how to recrify it? is this problem cause of lack of cooling on ram chips?

He bought the card from Abroad.
Theres so way of Repairing it im afraid.
I could be wrong though :S.

Was the card overclocked? This looks like standard overclocking damage. 6200TC is PCI-E. Is your card PCI-E or AGP?

It has to be AGP if he is using the Geforce 4 in the same system :stuck_out_tongue:
