No "edit" option for posts

well whenever i post something and intend to change the content i dont find the “edit” button in my post…i know it has time limit…but even checkin after immediately making a post i fail to find the same…
i even had a word with icefusion regarding the same…so i’m posting here as ssuggested by him…
hhere is the screenshot wherein my post doesnt have a “edit” button next to “quote”

is it that a user is granted this right only after reaching certain number of posts..???

If i’m not mistaken, once you cross 35 posts the option should show up

In the meantime, report any posts you need edited

Just a suggestion, maybe this has been asked before. Could editing(even after the set timeframe) of threads be allowed after a user reaches certain posts or certain rep level.

I feel this option missing most of the times (like the present Dell lcd prices thing - I would like to add couple of lines to my first post). Maybe there is some reason admins have made it this way. My suggestion is from a users viewpoint

thanx for the info…
and yea thnx for deleting those irrelevant posts of mine :stuck_out_tongue:
btw why is it that only users with 35 posts or more are given that option…just curious to know…

Thanks mate…

This is one of the few forums i’ve been on where you don’t have the possibility to edit posts at a later date..

i’m curious as to know the reason

^^^ prolly cos once the post moves back in pages the so called edit will be rendered useless…cos users who have already gone through the pages wont again go through 'em looking for edits…yea, if only it would have been possible that the first post of every thread can be edited at any point of time…

Other TechForums/websites have the “EDIT” facility.
I’m sure with a little simple intuitive programming the following can be ensured:-

[ol]
[li]The post does not move back in pages[/li][li]We get a line that says “Last Edited on …”[/li][/ol]

this is a great help, and I would love to have it

Many forums i’m on DO have that edit function, regardless of how far back in time it was.

I’m saying, i’m thinking its been disabled on TE for a reason.

If someone edits a post, the decent thing to do is put an Edit: tag.

Some people have misused the option earlier in some arguments. I guess given the size of TE, mods are playing safe with the option to prevent misuse.

Personally, I feel it cumbersome to PM a mod for a change in my own post though. I’d rather let the mistake be than PM anyone.

Right, so even if you don’t say that you modified a post the forum software should mention automatically at what date+time an edit was made.

There is no confusion in this case and agreed mods, have better things to do than fix typos or other omissions.

**Mods : **Please include the option of editing the posts.

It’s a very useful option and most forums provide that. Now, it’s impossible to edit the posts that is just even posted.

i suppose its already mentioned in the 2nd post…it is indeed provided, but shows up after u reach 35 posts…as of now if u need any editing to be done then report to the mods…

Umm, its only possible for an hour or so to edit your posts … after that it ISNT possible anymore. This is the part i’m referring to.

I’m well past this 35 posts limit!

I think this facility needs to be provided. To be honest, I can’t remember why it was not provided. There might have been an incident or two but really, I think people manage to fight even without the edit option :stuck_out_tongue: . Some hotheaded guys with lots of enthu to fight should not hold up progress on the whole forum.

There are legitimate reasons for editing one’s post esp. to correct factual errors that one might discover later on.

It would really ease the pain of the moderators too I believe.

Some changes were planned on TE. This might be one of the changes(actually, I’m quite curious as to what to expect  ). I for one really appreciate the increase in PM box size from 150 to 200. I would like to see the 30 second delay between searches also reduced to something like 10. But maybe the reasons for limiting the search are more valid(like bots or something).

that post was meant for SledgeHammer…not u blr_p…
