When we first came out with our G92-based 8800 GT, the timing wasn’t right to introduce a whole new 9-series. We didn’t have all the pieces of a 9-series line-up at that time, so we went with the brand of 8800 GT. Having rolled out a top-to-bottom 9 series over the last few quarters, this is now the right timing for 9800 GT branding.
Entertainingly, the 9800GT BIOS flashes onto the 8800GT I have cleanly. It works exactly like it should. That kills most of the uses I have for it (OSX86 and Linux) so I rolled it back, but AFAICT these ‘new features’ are software checkboxes only.
9800GT == 8800GT. 9800GT+ isn’t available yet. Hybridpower = 8800GT + BIOS flash. This is nothing new.
Despite their horrible pricing and stupid naming scheme, I still don’t think Nvidia guys can be this “Nvidiots”. lets brace for reviews…
theres no point at all in flashing BIOS to 9800GT
coz…then also ur card will perform the same …may be some warrantie issue .
also flashing BIOS will not make ur card HYBRID POWER one…so it’s upon U…BUT no advantages as such…onlywarranty issue
Just make a backup or dump ur original bios through gupz, and try it out, its not probable but a voltage increase might just be waiting and hence better overclocks, if that doesnt work just reflash it back!
Hmm…interesting…I was wondering (and hoping) that even the 8600GT could be flashed to 9600GT bios …Although I do believe that even if that were possible, the flash probably would fry the poor card .
