@ Mods…
I dont know how possible it is…
But dont you guys think that the total number of members on TE is highly bloated up…
Considering that 20,000 Member
Hardly 20% of them are active on it…
Of which 80% remaining I consider another 50% to be 1 Post Wonder…(My figure not the official one)
I say delete those ids and make then avaiable to the public…
I know…
The figure of 20k is good for getting advertisement revenue…
But than i think its highly misleading…
Wat say guys?
From what i can tell, there wont be a question of deleting the IDs. Its never done on a public forum. I am sure people can come up with unlimited unique IDs.
That no is a statistical fact and thats it. There is no question of bloated figure.
This happens everywhere.
And its not logical or even ethical to delete someone’s id just because he is not active or posted just once. Its their choice. Why should anyone have problems with no of registered members?
Active members is what matters but having inactive members does not harm us in any way. And if its helping te in any way ( like you suggested ) then so be it.
What about people who register we url’s in their name and then never make a portal… I myself have registered on n number of sites mainly to pick up a pic/application/info etc… And i would not like my id to be deleted from that site just cause i don’t use them anymore…
Heck i have got at least 20 different email id’s out of which i just use one… And i would not like them to be delted and going by your principle all those should be deleted if the id’s here are to be deleted…
P.S. And nobody is free first of all to start a portal and then later sit and delete Id’s…
Its easy on vbulletin to prune the users . no issues there , we did it all the time on a different site .
its really up to how they want to run the website . anyways its not any skin off my back , so i am really not bothered much here , unless its actually hurting the community in any way .
I second hmasalia. There should be some automated way to delete in-active id’s after some period of time. Heck for that matter even Yahoo and Google delete id’s if you do not log in for long periods of time.
I for one wouldn’t mind if my ID on some forum/site got deleted when I have not used it for an year.
Its not about availability of Unique ID’s but about availability of good ID’s.
Lets say that suppose a guy created an ID “Rajah” posted once and vanished forever. After 3 years another guy comes along and he is going to be a active poster and he would like his ID to be “Rajah”. Now this guy would not get the ID of his choice because 3 years ago some one post wonder created the same ID. I personally feel that the new guy deserves his ID of choice more than the one post wonder.
Yahoo/msn does not delete IDs. they inactivate the account and you have to reactivate again
IDs are first come first basis, thats universal rule. Once you post even a single post, there is no way in hell that ID should be terminated.
What about a person who makes say 5-6 posts and then for whatever reason does not log in.Are we suppose to delete those IDs?
What about the posts? Posts are part of the community.
Even I am a member of few fairly large forums like AT and G3d and i have not posted a single post in years. Still I have contributed to that forum no matter how many posts. Those are part of the DB. How can any of you justify deleting those?
Username is not a big issue. Its a free world. everyone has right to choose and reserve their online identities.
if you come here after someone has already registered with ID which you would like, well tough luck, move on and choose other id. Noone can determine is 1 person deserves 1 id more than other.
The same way noone should judge 1 post wonders. Its id they created, they have the right to maintain it and they deserve it as much as any other guy.
In real world, its like saying hey I deserve your real estate more than you so buzz off. Does that happen in real life? no.
Once its yours, its rightfully yours unless you yourself decides to part way with it. We dont even delete the ids of banned members why should we delete ids of 1 post wonders?
