Optical drive suggestions.

Hi folks,

My 3+ -year-old Liteon DVD drive seems to be dying and I am thinking of an optical drive upgrade soon. The other drive I have is a Liteon CD writer and is working fine.

  1. Should I go for a DVD writer combo? If so, which model No? How much will it cost?
  2. What would be an less expensive alternative?
  3. I am flexible on budget, but I want a good, trouble-free long-lasting product.

Get the Asus 1608 and flash it to a Pioneer 111L lightscribe drive :slight_smile: Slightly pricier tho, Rs2200 or so.

Or even the LG H42N. Get the LG or the Asus.

Hey guys, thanks plenty. Are the LG ones good? I don’t like LG too much! Got some bad experience with them.

Please confirm if this is the Asus one. What about the Sony? Any good ones from BenQ or Liteon?

Nope. Get the 1608 PS3. Anyway, the only one you will find in the market is the 1608 PS3 and thats the good drive. The LGs are good too. Benq, Sony arent that good these days, as they used to be about a year ago.

cost wise LG GSAH42N is around 600rs cheaper…i just bought 1 today for 1700…most of the LG drives i have used in the past few years have given excellent quality burns.

@Doc - 8X -RDL speeds in the H12N, 10X in the H42.
Get either of them.

Different chipsets, H42N uses Renesas R8J32032HFPV chipset and H12N uses Renesas R8J32018FPV chipset

the difference is only write speed 10x -DL for H42N and 8x -DL for H12N

So the unique improvement are 10x -R DL

ALL this excitement over a 2x boost in -R DL writing speed !! :frowning:
