pando.com -p2p file sharing between friends

hi all, check out pando . I think it has possibilities. Check out below how it works :-

Comments, suggestions, flames all welcome. I do remember the guy who had asked us if there was something like this to send his sister’s wedding pics. & we couldn’t give him a good solution. If he’s found a better one then tht’s also cool otherwise this is answer to his queries.

You just need to send .pando file to u’r friend after the upload is done. Now haven’t really tried if they have a custom file-uploader which can be resumed. It seems to sorta distant cousin of torrents but if they could potentially have some kind of CRC check after every few MB something which is done in torrent then it would be killer.

Rep. if found useful, flame if not useful

Never heard of it before. Trying it out now.

isn’t it similar to torrents?

neat interface. I wonder if it’ll settle with Warez overtime…

Let’s compare it with other alternatives . AFA oxyshare is concerned, it has a catalog where u can tag it. Now once u tag it it becomes public. Also both rapidshare & oxyshare have limits. Rapidshare has 300 MB while oxyshare has 700 MB per file. One can use a file splitter or something but u’re still using the normal way to upload. Which means if the connection is disconnected u’ve to re-upload. There are clients for doing something similar in rapidshare but these are un-official.

Pando on the other hand is built on the premise tht people want to do one-to-one sharing. The closest it comes to is an Encrypted Trackerless Torrent client. The issue with .torrent is they also need to be published on the . torrent while with pando u’re just talking with the pando server & u’r friend. Companies & individuals would benefit greatly with a tool like this.

Here’s the FAQ which gives a bit more info.

Here’s also a blog dedicated to the cause while below is the screenshot of the same

Yeah, but on rapidshare and Oxyshare we upload it at their servers, from where recieptants can download full speed.

But in pando, they’ll be downloading through our upload speed, right?

If its the case, it’d be pointless in India then.

AFA the graphic shows it would be both, u’ll be using the speed of the servers as well as p2p. So potentially it should increase download speeds.

i had registered here.. long time ago… couldnt figure out wth this is..lol… thanks for telling that its for p2p… i remember that time..it was restricted to sending only a few small files… tried doing a ppt.. but nothing happened… hmm

now with the app. they’ve developed it’s far easier. Also the small application is under tremendous development. It’s a Web 2.0 thing for sure

come on guys I was looking forward to some friendly banter or something. Everybody silent, what’s the matter ?

sounds really confusing and im not too keeon on trying out new p2p stuff… im happy with my private ftps
