i am planning to upgrade my pc.could u suggest a configuration for all that goes into the cabinet for under 20k.i already have the monitor,modem,keyboard,mouse.i need it only for casual gaming,to run itunes,play movies(so include dvd writer if possible),listen to music and for the internet.it should be able to run windows vista and games(at low resolutions,of course) for 5 years.
please suggest something on the intel platform and the approximate prices of all components.:S

You will have to add a graphics card later on to play newer games as the onboard graphics will barely play them now, IF it does at all. Adding a soundcard is also a good idea for better sound.
could u please then suggest a budget graphics and a sound card with above configuration.

Spend 3-4K more on CPU and get an SBLive 24bit for 1500 bucks. For 11K or thereabouts, you’ll get a 7600GT which’ll give you great bang for the buck.
if a can spend that 3-4k more,which CPU should i get.
AMD 3500+ should be within reach, coupled with Foxconn mobo is a much better deal IMO.
well,i have to stick to intel for some reason.so if i can spend that 3-4k more,which better intel processor can i buy.
i heard that Vista requires minimum 800Mhz FSB processor.is this true?isnt the 805 a 533Mhz FSB processor?
no vista does not require 800mhz fsb (there is no such thing like 800 mhz fsb processor)
amd is a better alternative incase you didnt know, you dont have to stick to intel all the time.
If you want it just for general use, dual core is the best option. And right now Intel is the only option in the low end range. Vista does not require a 800 Mhz FSB processor. But obviously if you can get one the performance will be much better. If you want to spend 3-4k more on a processor get the Pentium D 930 which is for 9k.
Soundcard get the SB Live 7.1 24 bit for 1.7k. Graphics it depends on the budget again. You can get a Geforce 6200 TC for 2.5k, a Geforce 7300 GT for 4.9k or a 7600 GS for 6.5k. For more than that the 7600 GT at 11k is the best.
In Delhi you get 7300 GT for 4.4 k and 6600 GS for 4.2k.
