OK, so I need a Windows based smartphone/PDA. Why Windows (and not symbian / the linux based n800)? Because there are a bunch of IE only websites(in fact these sites are the very reason for buying the damned PDA). Now, either I use the PDA + nokia 6630, or a smartphone.
I want a cheap option. Input will have to be via an on-screen keyboard (I don’t think a physical keypad will cut it very well for my pop). Suggestions?
i-mate jam is no good. Windows Pocket PC second edition (I would prefer mobile 5.0, isn’t that newer?) is all it has. No EDGE (I need EDGE if I go for a smartphone).
Windows Mobile Pocket PC Second edition =Windows Mobile 5.0 v2 latest version of the windows mobile available in the market :P.**GO for the latest version of phone and not the old one **.
Here is a review for imate from mouth shut to give you a idea.
What will you do with Edge? .This technology is used to watch tv.Get urself a 1GB SD card availabale for Rs 700 here .copy any movie you like and watch
on PDA.Watch using windows media player.
The device to computer syncronisation is much better in PDA than those crappy nokia phones.Syncronising on nokia is a pain in the a$$.
you can edit microsoft word ,excel, ppt and syncronishe with outlook .
Which PDA will let you do that?
The new one has much better processor and memory (416 MHZ and 64 MB).
The only one which has a higher processor speed is HP IPAQ at 512 MHZ.
It is an excellent PDA but it is not a smart phone though.
**Dell Axims had a lot of issues with connectivity. It had a good screen though. But overall it was not as good .They are PDA and not smart phones **
Hey, while we are on the topic, I would like to ask the reason for recommending any pda between i-mate / hp / O2 / dopod. They all have the same hardware (made by HTC), they can be crossflashed - then you get the same software as well. So, just buy whichever is cheaper
BTW, the gigabyte ppc has win mobile 6. Don’t know if its available here, though.
^^ If its the same model, then it can be crossflashed. Its just like we flash Asus DVD-RWs to pioneer, or Sony to BenQ, as they have the same hardware.
i used tool XCPUSCALAR i can also downclock speed to 103Mhz to save battery and also slabwise Overclock-Underclock according to CPU Usage just like intels speedstep or AMD’s cool n quiet
DVD RWs and PDA are different ball game altogether.Have you done it for any PDA?.I was told by my friend who works for motorola that they burn the Windows mobile images and that there is no way to change the OS unless you change the rom and you cannot do it at home.
WTF is that.. ur friend is faking.. i have changed OS versions many times i use latest Windows 2003 SE ROM flashed by USB if ur talking like to install windows mobile 5 on windows mobile 2003 device he is right… but flashing same version of OS like from WM5 to latest/old WM5 is simply possible at home as i have done it many times
The HTC TyTn (aka Hermes aka Cingular 8525) seems to be attractive. I might get that from somewhere.
As for why I want edge, it is simply so that I can surf the net. If you must know, this phone is for my pop. He does a little bit of online share trading and the like (not much actually) but it serves as an excuse for him to not get out at times. This way he can be mobile for the most part.
