Problems writing DVD

Hi,

My friend recently bought the LG-H42N DVD writer.

We are facing some problems creating movie DVD’s. following are the steps that i follow.

  1. create an image using nero recode, using double-pass and slow recording method. took 1 1/2 hr to compile the image.
  2. using the media Verbatim and moserbaer DVD-R (4.7gb)
  3. image is written at full write speed compatible.

problem is :
a) sometimes the data is written properly but the dvd does not play on the player.
b) sometimes the data is not written at all

so what should i take care of while creating backups of my dvd movies:

are there any settings that i need to check/change for the writer /software -like write mode/method, write speed, read speed

plsss help.

i have already lost 4 DVD’s from my pack of 10.

from what format are you encoding?

use ConvertXtoDvd for encoding your dvd files. then use nero to burn them as a dvd-video disc.

Edit: another thing is..you might have to change the book-type setting in ur drive to DVD-ROM if it is set to DVD +/-R. i’m not sure how to do it in an LG. check in your burn options. some dvd players will not play a dvd file unless it is burnt as DVD-ROM. though nero should do it automatically during burning.

@sunilyo - try 8x burn speeds..

ok. but what about the media that i am using. can something go wrong with the media also??? or is it like making these few adjustments in the software/writer will solve the problem.

Nero itself can convert most of your video files to dvd and do the writing as well. Use dvd+r as only those can be converted to dvd-rom— TechHead can elaborate on that… So if your dvd player can’t play pirated dvd’s (thats the shopkeeper talk) then u need to put in dvd roms. I had been thru the same.

so how do i determine that the dvd media that i have is dvd+r. is there any software that i can use. can nero cd/dvd speed help me???

Yes exactly… just put nero cd-dvd speed on and click on disc info ull get all the details of the blank media.

OK last question which media according to you is DVD+R. I mean which brand?

There is no exclusive dvd+r brand as such… although dvd+r is almost always more expensive. It is always clearly mentioned on the packaging and on the discs as “DVD+R” as opposed to “DVD-R”. Sometimes even in fine printing on the innermost transparent section of the disc in very small letters.

so u mean to say that the low cost mosarbaer’s and verbatims costing 20 bucks are all dvd-r. the high end one like the verbatim costing 60 bucks each is the dvd+r ???

itll be mentioned on the box if they are +r or -r

prices for both are the same

and there are only 2 kinds of moserbaer…pro and non-pro

get the pro and your dvds should live for a few years atleast
