recording TV shows from set top box

Have a local make Set top box( for DD Plus DTH) which has AV and RF out, the TV AV In is connected to it. The TV has another AV out. I am looking for cheap solution to record TV shows on the computer. I don’t require full fledged TV control on the computer, recording will do..

Any Suggestions??

get a nice tvtuner card?

does tv tuner card work for DTH also???

most tv tuner cards have a video capture mode to which you can feed direct RCA video

(You will not be using the Tuner card in RF tuner mode with a Set top box)

Else you could get a dedicated video capture card

It does. All you need is the MCE kit to make it work perfectly including channels and stuff.

TV tuners cards will take analog out from the STB or cable so it doesn’t matter whether its DTH, cable etc. You won’t get the digital stream, that’s encrypted and protected by the STB. You get the analog out which has been converted by the STB digital-analog converter that goes to the TV.

You do get cards that can capture DVB-C (digital cable), or DVB-S (Digital satellite) like Skystar or Technotrend but most of the broadcasts are encrypted by major encryption systems like NDS (TataSky), Conax (Dish TV) and are also paired with the STB so its a moot point what these cards can accomplish without major hackery which would be illegal. In the US its now a legal requirement for companies to provide a digital out in their stb’s via a firewire port. There should be similar requirment here so we can get the streams if we want on our PCs.

Anyway TV is so sad there is hardly anything worth watching forget recording. We should be paid to watch and record rather than broadcasters encrypting streams.

if you get DD’s DTH , what’s there to record??Anyway to record get any decent tuner card.
