Removing that extra OS from the boot menu

i was getting mad seeing that damn os selection page in ma comp whenever i started it
i didn’t have another OS but still that was coming becoz of a previous installation
then i came to know about this method

1.Click on Start, Control Panel, System, Advanced.
2.Under Startup and Recovery, click Settings.
3.Under Default Operating System, choose one of the following:

“Microsoft Windows XP Professional /fastdetect”
-or-
“Microsoft Windows XP Home /fasdetect”
-or-
“Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional /fastdetect”

4.Take the checkmark out of the box for “Time to display a list of Operating Systems”.
5.Click Apply and Ok, and reboot the system.

*If you wish to edit the boot.ini file manually, click on the button “EDIT”
i hope it will help someone

acc to this u are only removing the entry…but that will be restored once you reinstall the OS…IMO the only way to truly get rid of the message would be to reformat or erase the MBR…correct me if im wrong…

MBR can be reset right? with xp

I think either bootcfg /rebuild or fixboot to remove the entries ? fixmbr for reconstructing Master Boot Record ?

removing the entry..
That was wat i wanted
Actually i installed 2 os at one time on different partitions but the second one got corrupted so i formatted the whole Partition (the partition on which the curropted os was residing) and thereafter whenever i started ma comp i always got that OS selection page where i have to press enter to continue .To get rid of that i did this ..

Start>Run>Type in “Msconfig”> “boot.ini” tab>Check All Boot paths

:expressionless:

1.Click on Start, Control Panel, System, Advanced.
2.Under Startup and Recovery, click Settings.

this can b said as the shortcut to the boot.ini ..

am i wrong ???

^^ Nope.

10chars

i checked that and the method i told can b used to edit the boot.ini file i didn’t found any option in boot.ini tab to edit it

TO COMPLETELY REMOVE THE OS DISPLAY IN THE BEGINNING JUST EDIT THE BOOT.INI FILE FROM THIS METHOD AND DELETE THE DESIRED OS NAME FROM THAT FILE AND RESTART

how to do that while removing Vista 5744??

the bootfile is !@#$%^&

Use the fixboot and fixmbr commands from windows recovery console after booting from the xp cd , to get rid of the vista bootloader

egjatly!
this resets the MBR.
