Review: Joost!

well any one started using it ?

Here is what i found . I requested a frnd for an Invite  as u need to have invite to join joost

My hardware,

E6600
P5N-E SLI
XFX 6200 128MB LE.
3GB DDR-II
17" LG CRT

Windows XP SP2 Pro (x86)
BSNL 9000 Business (2mbps)
DataOne Home 500 (to test what will happen with upto 2mbps)
working with 1152x864 resolution

1st thing after getting an invite is, Downloading the Joost Player ! some 10 MB is the size. pretty simple install. After u install appliction will ask you for creating user name password etc.

Pretty nit-clean interface. Easy to understand.

Here is the Main Interface. !

The Playing set up

You also get Channel Catalog to search in

It starts with a suggested program. or u may select channel and program of ur choice.

So hows the Quality ! Well I have to say with working with 1152x864 resolution i find quiality isnt bad at all, yes i cant expect DVD / TATA Sky quality in 2mbps but seems good.

Brightest point is, with both connection Home 500 and Business 9000 I didnt get any lag at all. played smoth.

Technology is gr8 only the Porgrams sucks  didnt find any good program to watch.

How about Bandwidth consumtion ?

I played it for all most 1 hours in Home 500 and half an hour with Business 9000, it ate up 215MB in home plan but strangely enough almost same ammount in Business 9000 but in half of the time. (Note Run firewall to make sure its only joost which is accessing the net, did monitor all activity, no other program was download :p.)

But One more thing, its a resourse hungry application for sure.

http://img526.imageshack.us/img526/6728/processtl1.jpg

Running with 3GB i didnt feel any pain though those who are running 256MB will face problem. (note, many Laptop users are still with 256MB RAM)

so over all view, Program, Interface and performance is very good, but lacks quality programs to keep a viewer stick with the service.

So then, what is ur view guyess ? any one else playing it with different settings ?

What Is jost ??

can i get one invite tooo ??? it will be good if u can

Sp did you try any high definition stuff?? How’s their quality like?? or do you need an even faster connection for that??

Nice review … any chance to get this to work for 256k users ?

can we save any of the programs ?

I did see any option for High Definaton, but as i said i played it on 1152 resolution, quality want bad atall… !!!

Thanks for the comment… well, people who uses DataOne UL 900 they did have lots of problem of Video Lag, but with Home 500 (upto 2mbps) it works fine…

No, I did any any option of Trick whick could allow to save, unless u use any Screen Casting software !!

But all programs there, are avaialable on Demand… !!

Too bad it does not work with Airtel.

of course HD will require faster connection. do you know HD bitrate?? anyway if you want to test HD, go to Watch online news, entertainment, music and sports TV-channels for free. and check out its HD channel.

what’s the point of watching something, when you can’t watch it again…(without spending the same bandwidth everytime)…almost everything is avl on torrents…i see nothing exciting here

there might not be any point with India’s here, but where law is strong there torrent is not an option  and may be in future we get live TV on it

If it takes off wont be long before third party tools are available which will allow you to download the stuff onto your computer..

There is no content on Joost, Comedy central on Tvu rocks.

umm.. my self i liked the 5th gear

Cool tests and a nice review. Some additions to your preview/review.

  1. You need about 2 GB cache for it to work properly.
  2. Your account profile & the cache where it all stores is at C:\Documents and Settings\ \ ApplicationData\Joost

I worked it with 256 MB connection & there is some lag. But the wonder is can get it work with an aging i845 chipset & the video is full-screen. So no screenshots I can provide :frowning: . But still it works. Of course more people there using the service/application the less lag there would be (bandwidth-wise atleast as more parts are common) About somebody asking about Airtel are you sure you opened up your ports like :-

[ul]

[li]TCP access, outbound, to ports 80, 443 and 5223.[/li][li] UDP access, outbound, to port 4166.[/li][li] If you want to chat from within Joost, you’ll also need to enable inbound TCP access to port 5223.[/li][/ul]

Lastly, its a alpha/beta software & right now we are at 0.10.8 so its not even hit ver 1. Give it time folks

I will Give a Joost Invite to anyone in Exchange for a Demonoid Invite…PM me if interested…

thanks.

i was pretty happy with Joost i cud find many gud channels they had The Fight Network that was really cool summ pretty gud fights… Music vid channels ,BET things liek that …Comedy but it freezes on my comp cuz i only have 412MB of ram lol.
