I already know the Stacker 830 nVidia Edition is a modified Stacker 830 Evo.
One difference I can find apart from the color scheme is that front panel is different between the two.
So are there any other differences? Is there any reason to opt for one over the other considering both cost the same?
Is the there any difference in build quality or something else that is making people opt or the nVidia edition?
I had originally thought I would wait and get an Antec 1200 assuming it would cost 10~12k, but the way things are going, even the Antec 900 (which has been selling for as low as $79 after a mail-in-rebate on newegg) has been bumped up in from 6k to 8k in India now. I dont know how much they will be asking for the Antec 1200.
So If I am going to change by cabby, its probably going to be the Stacker 830. btw, Stacker supports extra hdd through seperately purchasable HDD cages. I could not seem to find them either on newegg or in India. Are these even available? Out of the box, stacker 830 supports only 4 HDD, so without the extra cage it would be useless for me since I have 6 HDD to put in it.
Antec 1200 will be here in another 2 weeks acc. to itdepot. No idea about the pricing though. About the cages, am sure i saw one those in newegg few weeks back. Let me check now.
Amarbir had mentioned that he had the 4-in-3 module in stock but whenever I brought it up I got no response. Try to contact him. Maybe you will get a better response.
The 4in3 device is available on newegg (or was when I checked 4 weeks back). I think its available on and off subject to stock. Monitor newegg for a month and check. I recommend you use just 3 HDDs in one cage, specially if they’re hotter drives. I used 4 drives in one cage, and even then to the 830s credit nothing seemed to get very toasty, but still with 4 drives the spacing between them is miniscule. The front LED fan just cools the drives quite well. You may need to place this fan to suck air inside and over and between the drives. And when you buy the cabby insert the HDD tray carefully, as the runners develop some play with repeated removals, although this takes a couple of years to show up
Without sounding like a fan cause I own the older STACKER, its an excellent cabinet. The only minus is its bulky and heavy, trying loading it with 3-4 HDDs, 2x optical drives, and a heavy GPU, and cooling solutions for the GPU and CPU and then work out with it…You’ll be sure to get shoulders like Batista
That being said this cabby is definitely a keeper for me.
^^ Don’t even compare ugly Chieftec’s to CM STACKERS.
that extra cage for hdd is available here at top notch infotronix in calcutta
the guy had shown it to me… i think u can try contacting top notch directly
The most significant of attractions for me in the stacker is the removable tray. For a bulky guy like me, its a great convinience. That and the excellent fan support. btw, I heard there are clearance issues if you are using a Ultra 120 [Extreme]. Will it atleast allow me to install atleast three fans on the side panel with the TRUE 120 inside?
Also about the original question, is there anything that nVidia special editon offers that the Stacker Evo doesnt?
With a TRUE, you can install only three fans on the side panel. The fourth fan will end up interfering with the TRUE.
The nVidia Edition, to my knowledge, doesn’t have anything extra over the 830 Evo. Just the front panel that is different and the color scheme. Makes sense if you’re an nVidia fanboy, I guess!! Personally, I hate the color scheme on the nVidia Edition. Prefer the silver Stacker to even the black non-nVidia Edition Stacker! Ultimately, it just boils down to your personal preference.
As for the hard-drive module, like Vandal said, it’s available on Newegg. Might be out of stock which is why you didn’t find it. I’ve got five hard-drives in my Stacker. Four in the HDD module, and one mounted on top using the Raptor X module. The Raptor X module is designed to allow you to show off your Raptor X drive by mounting it on top of the cabinet and you can see your drive spinning through the mesh on top. It can also be used to mount a fan on top.
All in all, a very versatile case. I’ve even managed to watercool my rig. A bit cramped, but then, the Stacker 830 was never designed to excel at watercooling. Still does a decent job of it. I’m cooling only the CPU and I’ve managed to stick everything inside the cabinet without modding it. Switched from a single rad to a dual rad and didn’t have to cut any extra holes in the cabinet!!
m not comparing cheiftecs with CM’s .. of couse i know cheiftecs are known for server type cabby’s and not for gaming.. but then if there are less varieties in gaming cabby with regards to more HDD stackin capabilities.. chieftecs are good enuf..
With the TRUE and Ultima 90i both the fan above your CPU will need ditching. Other than that put in a fast fan at the rear. I’d recommend something around 60~80 cfm.
Yep I’m bulky too, and the removable tray is sweet indeed, and the mechanism very strong, and works well even after many tinkerings.
btw try and get the aluminium one if you can pass up black (yuck for me!). Polish it once with vaseline and watch her sparkle
And post pics
^^ its not about server like or gaming. You need to view a Chieftec and a STACKER 830 properly side by side, then actually install a system inside both and use them. Then watch your friends commenting over either Then you know the difference
