Hey guys,
Well, my parents wanna buy a Plasma TV, for their 25th Wedding Anniversary .
Their budget is around 2 Lakhs. The lesser the better .
My dad was eyeing at a few.
The Pioneer PDP-436HDG and the Panasonic TH-42PV500.
A Few more from Hitachi and Philips too.
Can you guys tell me whats the best thing to go for now.
Must be HDTV.
Must be 42" atleast.
Atleast 1024 Resolution (1280 preferred).
Should have really nice pic quality
High Contrast Ratio is an added bonus .
Thanks in Advance.

All I have to say about plasma TVs is that they get ruined in two years or so… better to go in for a projector. You get some really nice projectors for about a fourth of that price, and the size of the image varies from 40" to 300" (300" diagonal with 16:9 ratio= 21 feet horizontal!!!)

I already have 3 Projectors at home.
2 HP and 1 COmpany i 4got the name off.
The thing is, the Bulb is toooooooo costly and hard to find here. (Talking about my HP Projectors)
@Udit , none of those 2 seem to have HDTV.
HDTV is a must.

The LCD TV has HDTV in the Specifiications there is written it has ‘HDMI In (DVI-HDTV In)’ near the bottom.
The Plasma TV does’nt have HDTV.

HDTV will be the 1 point to blow costs…
models are rare here…
And how about an HD player to go with it…
Man I encoded an HDTV qual DVD to 1080p using AVID xpress pro…whoooopee the quality was great…It depends on the source ofcourse but still very good…
Check for Sony’s and Samsung’s they’re good. Pioneer too. Give LG a skip.
If you can, check this month’s issue of “What Hi-Fi: Sound and Vision” It has got reviews of many LCD screens.

Ok.
I talked to my Dad, Its ONLY Plasma TV’s.
Budget 1.50k preferred.
Please dont argue between LCD and Plasma anymore.
Just guide me on what to buy.
Thanks a lot.
Id like it if the Mods, shift the LCD vs. Plasma, discussion to another new topic.
Thanks.

People say Sony is bad for Plasma’s.
Whats the Best Brand for plasma tv’s out there?
Hitachi?
AV Max had done a review this month or last month on Plasma displays. They had spoken very favorably of the NEC displays

well plasma v/s lcd battle will continue foreever:
the points to ponder are:
the size of your room (if large than plasmas are better) the distance between viewer and tv if short the lcds will be better
the ambient light( the more the light more weightage to plasma but if you love darkened atmosphere like in theatres than lcd are better)
plasmas require better cooling otherwise the humming noise will be irritating.
both have pros and cons so go there see the display(better if you take a DVD with you which you enjoy and then compare it
your eyes and your pocket are the best judge.
regarding the companies : i will put toshiba >> panasonic >> sony = samsung
i dunno about the regular availability and backup support in case of NEC and i have not even seen them in operation so i can not comment upon them.
one toshiba model
its for 5k sg dollor (1sg dollor = 27.** INR) so it should be 135000 and taxes. Final cost will be near 150000-170000
