Today it came to my knowledge that vista doesnt have direct sound support at all. It only uses openAL. So the games that use Direct sound cant be played in surround mode in Vista http://forums.erodov.com/images/smilies/frown.gif. You will only get stereo sound. This is really bad for those who have surround setups.
Now those who have createive X-Fi series, need not worry as creative has taken out **alchemy **project that has the API’s responsible for converting Direct Sound (from games) to corresponding openAL instructions. So the vista can send these openAL instructions to the soundcard. But this is only for X-Fi series.
So for ppl like me (on board sound) and others who use audigy and all…Is there a way to run directsound games in 3d mode ???
