What is the correct way to hot-swap sata hdd's?

I have a MSI K8NGM2 FID mobo and i am using seagate SATA I and SATA II drives with it…

and i have been using the hot swap function also…but sometimes 2 of the drives dont get detectedd while being hot-swapped but when attached after normal shut down work fine…

i always attach the power cable first and then the the data cable…is this the right way??
and while removing…the data cable first and then the power cable…

i too do the same…but so far no probs…but sometimes i get some kinds beep noise…n the system becomes too slow…then i see controller error messages in the event viewer…so i’m also looking for answers u see…i guess there might be a few more like us…
