mostly i will tell him to get it from Sify shopping ..due there extremely low prices ..as well as 1yr warranty(though not from canon but vendor warranty)
also ..any particular reason not to go.for Sony ?? he had visited Vijay sales in mumbai and was telling me that he found the sony W80 picture quality better than some canon model mostly (570 IS )…also if u think theres some other model which suits his needs do tell me..

if u feel he wont like using features etc on the S3 get the 570IS instead of the 710IS. the 710IS ur simply payin 2k more for 2X more zoom n an older processor
710IS has the older DIGIC II while 570IS has DIGIC III wit better n more advanced auto focusin features etc (such as face recognition) For now, ur better off with the 570IS
Marketing gimmick of Sony. If you want plain good pictures go for a Canon. techie_007 is right.
570IS instead of the 710IS is a better alternative to an older individual for his first cam. S3IS is certainly a better cam with advanced features.. I doubt your uncle will all need that. If he is a techie, you can get it.
if you are looking for a compact cam u can consider these
panasonic lumix dmc tz3 ( 7.2mp, 10x optical zoom, 3" lcd,28mm lens)..the downsides are its low internal memory of abt 12mb and lack of usb 2.0 support. price arnd 16k.
Those are just marketing terms referring to standard camera features..each company has their own terms to impress customers and make the camera stand out
Just look at the 570IS canon website n u ll find 4-5 features not mentioned on the SONY tell those to ur uncle
AFAIK: Double blur is just a fancy reference to IS (image stabilization) n optical IS is the best n the canon has it (the sony probably also does, but just pointin out that its nothing unique ) tell ur uncle that these are just gimmicks
canon will also have picture viewing n slideshow funtions i guess. but no one ever uses them re tell me, will ur uncle bother creating a slideshow with pictures n sound on his computer then transfer them to the camera to show to ppl on that tiny screen? so nz moot point:P
n no in the mood to google for d whatever optimization but 100% (yup, 100 ) its just a fancy name for some std or even useless feature possibly just tell ur uncle that out of he two, canon is the specialised camera making firm (IMO, sony makes god cameras too..i just personally prefer canon so ppl dont flame me for not goin for sony )
the card n case should be ok. But if ur in doubt, get only the camera. AFAIK, thats available too. U ll get it cheaper. Spend the cash u save to get a card and case locally…no isues
