I’m currently at my friend’s place using his PC to post this message. I’m having problems starting up Windows XP.
Whenever I turn my PC on and I start XP, it reaches that blue welcome screen and says, “Windows Is Starting Up” and then just gets stuck over there. It does not start up from there, it does not go anywhere, it just stays at that screen.
I tried running the PC on Safe mode, it still gets stuck at that same place.
I tried the last good configuration thing, it still gets stuck at that same place.
I had the same problem…I think the Log file on the comp is gone…Did ya install the new Softare by Norton…
Anyway i guess the best would be to reinstall XP…Thats what i did…
anyone any other Ideas?
I dont think so…if it does not start in Safe Mode then i guess…we are in trouble…I had this problem a lot…I called microsoft tech support also…they too say that no solution
If ya want i can call them up again and ask
is a fat partition or ntfs. also do you have recovery console installed. u can try to repair your windows xp BUT it will erase everything on c (or wherever you instaled xp) from the xp cd. did u install any new hardware.
hey, try strating your pc using recovery console and perform “chkdsk /r” on your pc…it will repair any corrupt system files on your pc and hope windows starts uppp…
I often see this problem when I restore a backup image of my XP setup from one drive to another… the thing that works 100% for me every single time is to run “fdisk /mbr” from a Win98SE boot disk. It MUST be from 98SE other versions of fdisk may not work.
You can also try do a Repair Install of XP - sometimes this works and you do not loose any settings or software already installed.
When I do drive to drive backups and restores with Ghost 9 and Acronis True Image I have no problems but when I do a Partition to Partition Restores I often get the same problem as Avtar… I went to the Acronis Forum and picked up this info …
Actually, only Win98 fdisk /mbr will work. As I understand it, the Disk Id will be cleared by Win98 fdisk /mbr by “mistake” because it clears extra bytes in the MBR. But this “mistake” is good for resetting drive letters.
If you use WinXP “fixmbr” it will correctly fix the MBR but will not reset the Disk ID.
This works for problems with Disk Restores - I am not sure if it will for Avtar - but worth a try. This type of problem can happen because the drive ID gets messed up - if Avtar can read the BOOT.INI file on the drive he will probably see that the reference to his XP partition will be listed as something other than “C”.
Juz reinstall xp and select the repair option, hopefully everythin will be back to normal
repair option will not do anything to ur installed applications.
