any other SATA writers i should consider? Noise etc not an issue. it should read/write as fast as possible , **without any errors **
l-O models ending with L generally have LightScribe built in.

bah, called around town, and all they have is sony and samsung, the sony being ~1.7k, the samsung being 1.3k
I assume that the sony is one of the optiarcs, and the samsung is a 20X, i guess its a SH203B. I guess I’ll have to get the Samsung then. is there anything about the optiarc which is worth the extra .5k ?

but a few of my friends have had bad experiences with samsung drives. Some discs were not read at all.
My 3 liteon Drives, on the other hand , have been perfect.
Get the Lite-on sourced from PRIME or theitwares.. Why ‘thiruvanthoram’??

PS: Samsung S203B is out of stock these days. S203D is available tho..
well, am not a fan, but after seeing my city spelt so many different ways , in so many different cities, figured, I’d spell it the way locals pronounce it 
well u can get the samsung drive the sh 203d is all good. u can check some scans i posted in the verbatim go. the D can read more media compared to the B that being the only major diff. which is a advantage . the drive is all good and has no problems, i have it and am pretty satisfied, as i use it like or should i say Ra** it.

Get the LH20A1S , it’s very fast the only drawback being that it sounds like a jet about to take off while burning at 20x 
! You can also flash it to 9L08 fw

Samsung 203D is good buy @ 1300 any day over any brand right now prevailing in the market. Otherwise you can always get the other model as replacement
yup. right now the 203D is pretty much my only option. Lemme see what the sony drive they have in stock is. heard that there is a new sony drive out which is in fact a liteon
if it aint, then i’ll prolly be getting the Samsung 
Boy am I lucky
went to my regular place, and they said that they had an HP and sony , both OEM writers. The HP’s model No was DH 16A3L, a dead giveaway that it was a liteon. Called up a friend of mine who googled and came up with this
they were asking 1.45 for the hp as opposed to 1.35 for the sony(yes the sony was cheaper:P the female on the phone who i talked to must have had no clue ) . Yet the sony/optiarc’s naming seemed familiar. AD 7190S. some more googling turned up this

this isnt the first time this dealer (logtech) has surprised me. a few years ago, all the other shops had the ASUS 1608P3S and Sony DRU 820A, at ~2.7k . Me being a fully broke college student couldnt afford any of those. And this guy offered me the 1633S (though it was a generation old already at that time) for 2.1k :D. Pays to be on good terms with the guys there
