Dell Vostro 410 Tower or build - business desktop.

Hi folks,

I need a business-class desktop

Had zeroed on Dell Vostro 410 Tower

with 4 gb ram, Vista Buisness, 250 + 250 HDD. No Monitor needed.

But then the though strikes me. Why not build a good/similar configuration.

Please suggest something in both AMD/Intel platforms for the same.

Usage will be for office, I need the most power I can get because it is not going to be upgraded in a long time (or possibly ever).

No graphics work, no fancy graphics or sound required. Dependability should be 100% (or as much as possible). Less power hungry. Cabinet should look business like.

Awaiting inputs.

TIA.

Intel Q6600 @9100
Abit P35 @6k
XFX/EVGA 8600gt @4.5K
4gb RAM @4k
wd 320 GB @2.5k
Mercury 89 CAB @1.5K
DVD WR @1.3K
Microsoft KEY+MOUSE @800
Dell 19TFT with 5years warranty @9.5k
Vista Retail Pack 9K max

budget???

35-40K (without monitor).

CPU Q6600 9k (is slightly more power hungry but is kinda futureproof)

MOBO: Intel P45 5-6k.

DVD Writer: Samsung SATA 22X. Rs. 1100.

RAM: 2 X 2 GB Transcend Rs. 4k

GPU: XFX 8400GS or ATI HD3450 (hdmi)

HDD: WD 640GB Rs. 3500

KB+MO: Logitech MM Rs. 750.

PSU: Corsair VX450W Rs. 3300.

CABINET: Chieftech Rs. 4-5k. (U really dont require this one, it looks business like and is very sturdy hence i suggested)

Even a coolermaster Elite 333 looks very “business like” IMO. Rs. 1700.

^^ would suggest that you get the cm elite..

the business like part of the chieftec is that its a Server range :stuck_out_tongue:

the cm elites are a lot more suitable for desktop usage.

Well on second thoughts i would have gotten in touch with a Dell employee here and bought the Vostro 410 with Quad core CPU 4GB ram and Vista Ultimate SP1 500GB HDD with full 5 years or max warrantee you can get. Dell ASS is best in the business. :cool2:

rockfella, Vista Ultimate or Vista Business?

Dell employee? Who? Any possibility of big discounts?

afaik, roughly 7-10% should be possible.. but its tough to find these discounts nowadays.

and get vista business. no point getting visa ultimate. you’ll have all you really need in the business edition itself.

I case I got for assembling my own desky, which is the **most stable **board for the Q6600 processor. Also, comparable AMD processors and mobos?

the guy clearly says no graphics works
so why is everyone suggesting good discrete gfx cards?
just because he has an okay budget doesn’t mean he should
buy things he doesn’t need !!!

This Intel P45 motherboard refers to this one right?

If so, we are talking about DDR3 right?

And that costs like 10K for 2gb?? and not 4k for 2gb!:S

Too much for my liking, so what are my options now? For a stable motherboard for the Q6600?

How is the DB33FB?

Any P35/45 mobo can run Q6600. Get BIOSTAR Tpower 45 Rs. 8k. Latest mobo latest chipset. If u ever feel like overclokcing later it will do everything for you.

Where are you getting this mobo in india and that price ?

Intel DX48BT2 costs 15K it seems and P45 only 6K?

oh ok

Thanks, will look this up.

Thanks for this as well. Are Asus boards as good as they used to be? How is the after-sales service?

  1. Now, the more I look up P35/45 mobos, the more I see no integrated graphics. I am okay spending 8-10K on the mobo, but as I am not going to have graphic-intensive apps running, I will then possibly go for an entry-level graphics card. Which one?

  2. Are there any good P35/45 mobos with integrated video (DVI-D out)? I did find the Intel DQ35JO mobo** (any views on this one?) **with integrated video + dvi-D output, but the Intel ones are overpriced and I could get a better deal with other brands, right? Any suggestions on this?

for buisness work…why such mobo n GPU

getting mobo with onboard graphics will be good for you .

if u want to spend more than entry level GPU 8600GT 4K .
9600GSO 6.2K or 9600GT 7.2K but this will be overkill .

so
q6600 9.3K
XFX 630i mobo / any company mobo with NVIDIA 630i chipset will do costs around 3K
RAM TRANSCEND 2GB@800MHZ 1.9K
GPU --as u wish i think no need of that .
DVD RW 1.2K
H.D.D - as per requirment 250GB 2.2K , WD 640GB 3.8K
cabby CM ELITE -1.9K
PSU-POWER SAFE 400W silver 1.2k

this costs around -22K with 640GB H.D.D

-an VISTA BUISNESS PACK
key+mouse-as you wish .

if u wish to have GPU
then 9600GT 7.2K or ATI 4850 10-12K
PSU-CORSAIR 450VX - 3.2K
mobo ABIT I-P35E (P35 chipset-P45 is its succesor) -5.3K /BIOSTAR TP45 -8K

Thanks Sudarshan! I don’t really need separate graphic card and don’t really want to spend 4K for it! That is why I thought of the Intel DQ35JO

However, my priority is a stable board. I was thinking the P45 chipset mobos are better? More stable? Or the P35.

Now you have brought the XFX/similar motherboard into the picture. It sure interests me. And the 630i chipsets. How do these match up to the P35? Are there any niggling issues with this chipset?

I really would not want to pair a good processor like the Q6600 with a less-than-average chipset.

Awaiting your replies.

EDIT: Read some place the XFX 630i does not support dual-channel memory. True?

do not go for the 630i chipset.

on the other hand, do consider the intel G31/G33 chipset. a gigabyte board which comes with this chipset seems to be highly recommended. sufficient onboard performance. dual channel memory. nice overclocking options.

Thanks,

Do you mean this Gigabyte GA-G33M-DS2R or this GA-G33M-S2H one?
